Last year for this fantastic coupe.   You are bidding on a well-preserved. ready for restoration. Volvo p1800e coupe.   The last years for the coupe saw some much appreciated upgrades including fuel injection and four-wheel disc brakes.

This car is in good running and physical shape.   Over the summer. the following maintenance items were addressed:

New –

·       Battery

·       Negative Cable Lead

·       Fuel Pump

·       Fuel Filter

·       Fuel Lines

·       Ignition Coil

·       Plug Wires

·       Pressure sensor

·       Rear suspension straps

Overall Condition of the car is as follows:

Mechanicals:

The mechanicals of the car run well. engine. braking system. fuel system.   Transmission shifts well and overdrive works without issue.   Tires are new and in great shape.   All exterior lamps work.   Interior bulbs need replacing here and there and the turn signal switch (new part included) needs to be replaced.  Gauges work with the exception of the speedometer.   The needle fell off inside of the gauge and I have not cracked it open to repair.   Oil temperature gauge works but always reads extremely low. I believe this to be the sensor in the engine itself. Finally. needs a new cosmetic cap for the rear window defrost switch.

Cosmetic:

Interior

At this point the car needs a restoration.   While complete. the interior is worn.   The original carpets are in good shape and could be removed. cleaned and reinstalled.   The upholstery. seat belts and rubber trim should be replaced.   As always. the dash pads are cracked but replacement caps are included in the sale.   Rear view mirror has decomposed along the way and been removed but I have the original mounting arm.

Exterior

As with the interior all is present and accounted for.   The body was repainted at some point in the 80's and it is a poor paint job.   The original color of the vehicle is #105 (metallic gold) and the car could most easily be returned to this color.   In addition to paint. the side strips needs to be de-dinged but will polish well.   One strip of trim on the driver's side doorframe needs to be replaced as it is missing about 6 inches.   Chrome is showing wear but will polish nicely with minimal pitting or could be redone for show purposes.   Finally. I would replace the rubber seals for the windows as they are wearing and actually got paint on them when it was redone.

Note - Grill

The grill and chrome grill surround is only placed on the car for photos.   The surround needs to be reshaped and have new screw tabs attached and it will not affix to the car as is.   Plastic grill itself is pretty badly broken. I would replace both.

What about Rust?

One of the great things is that there exists almost no rust.   The frame and floor pans are clear as is the lower drip edge on both sides of the car with the exception of minor surface spots wear paint has worn.   The only real surface rust is in the trunk and could be remedied with rust stop or you could replace the inside trunk floor panel if it bothered you.   Additionally. the battery box has rust and was covered with diamond plate at some point.   I would remove and replace with a new box.   There has been some bodywork along the way but appears very minor.   Additionally. there exist small bits of surface rust in the inside door seams that should be sanded and treated when repainting.

Note – Body Work

The worst part of the body is the driver's rear quarter panel and where it meets with the tail of the car.   At some point the car was obviously bumped and was just hammered back into general shape and painted.   This is the one big area I would address in the repaint process.

Extra Parts

In addition to the car. winning bidder receives roughly $800 in parts for the car including:

·       Front and rear bushings

·       Steering wheel

·       New Hood and Trunk rubber

·       New rear Side-Window rubber

·       New radiator hoses and thermostat

·       Complete new gasket set

·       New Headliner still in box

·       New top and bottom dash covers

·       New serpentine belt

Hopefully the above gives you some insight into the car.   It is a great and valuable last year model and a great chassis for restoration.   Happy to answer any questions along the way.
