Have a look at my latest Kombi Sunny. He's a 1973 Kombi camper van. I have owned him now for two years and have completed a rather extensive restoration.
I have restored probably close to 30 Kombis in the last 8 years from varying conditions. Sunny was definitely one of the better examples. having sat in the previous owners garage for about six years. There was a small amount of rust but overall he was in excellent condition. My panel beater and spray painter has close to 40 years experience in the trade and has specialised in Kombis for about the last 7 years so you can be confident the job was done by a professional. Check out the photos and the video and you can see we payed a lot of attention to getting it right.
What was done:- Rust repairs: under windscreen. small areas in bottom of the nose. corner sections at rear next to engine hatch. - Some small dent repairs- Primed (in 2K). blocked and sanded to 600 and Resprayed in quality 2K paint. Resprayed inside of doors and door jams. - Stone-guard rust protection to front bumper protrusion and front floor.

As far as the mechanics go. I have spent a lot of time and money getting it right. After having owned so many Kombis I can really tell when it's running perfect or not quite right. Below is a list of the work and the new parts. Although I cannot say when the engine was replaced or rebuilt as I did not do this myself. I can say the original engine was a 1600 and has been replaced with an 1800. On adjusting the tappets I visually inspected the valves and heads and can say both look to be near new with plenty of adjustment left.
Mechanical:- New distributor (Vacuum advance not 009)- New spark Plugs - New ignition leads- New ignition coil. - New points- Rebuilt carburettors- New push-rod tube seals- New Oil and filter- Adjusted Tappets- New rocker-cover gaskets- Adjusted timing- Clean brake discs and drums and machine where necessary- Bleed brakes- Adjust handbrake- Adjusted clutch
As for the interior. This is one of my favourite parts of restoring a Kombi as I think getting the interior nice is what sets it apart. I chose neutral black and white cause it goes with anything. If you don't like the yellow you can repaint it and the interior will still match
What we did:- Installed a full-width rock-n-roll- Seatbelts for all 5 seats: Can register as a 5 seater- Re-upholstered front seats. rock-n-roll and rear mattress- New floating timber floor- Re-covered interior trim/door cards- Re-painted dash- New front floor matt- New stereo with CD. USB and AUX
All that is left to do. and this is why you get a $5. 00 price cut from what should be a $30k+ Kombi. is fit a new canvas and new poptop hinges. Hinges are about $200 and a canvas is about $400. Although fitting these would be easier as a two man job. its not overly complicated.
I hope I have given you enough info. but if you would like to know more please give me a call or send me a text and I will call you back. Ph: 0431-885-082.
