PRODUCTION: This car was manufactured in October 1963 in South Bend ; Number 377 of the 703 units of the 1964 Daytona convertible model were made; 417 in South Bend and after USA production halted. nbsp; 286 units in Hamilton. Ontario during 1964.
Last convertible model manufactured by Studebaker; all factory production stopped in 1966.
I have owned this car since 2015 – selling to reduce my collection with lack of storage space. Recent tune-up with points. condenser. cap. lugs and wires. Starts right up and runs well and stops well with front disc brakes and good V-8 power. New vinyl top and vinyl window; boot is like new. New fuel sender. mechanical fuel pump and fuel filters (Qty 2). Having owned several old convertibles this car is very solid for a 50 year old convertible. The car is definitely a nice original and the next owner will love it.
Chassis
The chassis is very straight with no rust at all that I could see - it has a nice coat of paint on it and no rust or accident repairs.
Interior
All of the lights and horn work. The switches operate just fine. The ac operates and needs to be recharged. The interior matches the original having been probably replaced during a prior restoration. The vinyl is still soft and the front seat side skirt has a tear. It does have period seat belts front and rear. The clock runs perfect. The dash board has nice color and does have one small crack at the left corner adjacent to the speaker grille. Very rare AM / FM radio is original and plays but sometimes the output transistor cuts out while driving – a fairly simple repair for a radio repair facility.
Drive line
The motor does not have any major leaks. Now remember all Studebaker engines leak some oil. that's just the way they are. A few drops if it sits - use the car often and very little leakage. In the engine bay is a nice. clean driver condition with the yellow valve covers and orange oil fill covers as it did when it left the factory. The transmission does have a minor drip and works very nicely with no noises. Cooling system is perfect – even in this hot Florida climate the car runs cool.
Suspension wheels and tires.
It looks like the car has fairly new shocks on it. The springs look in great shape with no cracks or sag to them. The tires match (including a new spare) and all in very nice shape. Includes original jack. Original factory wheel covers and newer whitewall tires -
Body:
The body is very straight with no dings or dents. It has a few chips and scratches while repainted very close to the original Horizon green. No over spray on the chassis or trim. All of the latches work very well and everything shuts nicely. The floors on the car looked very solid but there is a bit of rust in the rear most outriggers for the body mounts and in the front where a repair was made a long time ago. The floors are very solid with no signs of rust except some minor surface rust in the trunk corners. The driver door is missing the rubber seal that runs along the right edge - a new replacement rubber seal will be included for the new owner to install. It also needs the blanket style insulation to be added to the underside of the hood to look like factory (available at S. I. ).
