Well folks the time has unfortunately come. Due to my health and financial commitments I must sell my 1949 Mercury Coupe. I hunted for many years before I found this Zero rust beauty. The undercarriage is all original and rust free. The body is laser straight and rust free except for one bubble smaller than the diameter of a lead pencil on the bottom of the front fender. Not really worth mentioning it was there when I bought the car in July of 2002 and never got any worst. I know this car was always garaged since 1968 before that I have no information. The engine is a rebuilt 400 cui. Oldsmobile Tri-Power (original GM setup) with a muncie 4-speed transmission with a Hurst comp. plus shifter. The drivetain is from a 1965 Oldsmobile 4-4-2. I changed the original rear to a GM camaro rear that gives it great highway gears. The old 4:11 rear was a screamer. The steering is tight and steers like it should. The brakes are stock also. The car has lowering blocks on the rear and stock suspension in the front. No cutting the springs or any of that kind of butchering. The car has dual exhaust with glasspacks and non functioning lake pipes. The car has flame throwers but I've never used them. I can't say enough for the body it's one of the finest uncut zero rust straight body that I've seen. The hood is louvered and nosed (shaved) and trunk lid is also shaved with an electric solenoid opener. The doors have Lincoln mechanical push button openers (old school very hard to find). The chrome and glass are all in excellent condition. The car is tastefully pin striped with the name theme of "Poison Ivy". The grill is from a 1954 Chevrolet. The gas tank is stainless steel so no problems there. The spot lights are dummy (non functional). The interior has a couple of issues. Just before I bought the Mercury the interior was getting redone and the rear seat and door panels were finished and the front seat was next but the upholsterer died before he did it. The black vinyl front seat looks good but doesn't match the burgundy rear seat. A set of seat covers would cure this issue. The cloth headliner has a hole in it about the size of 2 fingers. The dash and window trim are original paint and look great for 64 years old. This car has the "JAMES DEAN" look for sure. Roll a pack of luckies in your T-shirt sleeve and be the "Rebel Without A Cause" I just wish I could find Natalie Wood. I hope I'm doing the right thing selling this car I'm sure I'll regret it. Someone can buy it and take it to "Lead East" in Parsippany Labor Day weekend and have the time of their life. I reserve the right to stop the auction as the car is for sale locally with much interest. Shipping is the winners responsibility but I will assist the shipper anyway I can. I regret at age 73 with failing health I must down size my collection. If you have any serious real questions call 856-327-0289 or 609-501-5192 ask for John. I do the best I can to honestly tell you about the car. Some things get overlooked. and everyone looks at things in different ways. Bid with confidence it's a good one!! Good luck bidding and God Bless!!
