1959 Mercedes 220S Cabriolet

The car was repainted white in late 80's but garaged and meticulously cared for after that and as a result is in very good shape.   It has a red leather interior like original but not believed to be original in its entirety. Burled wood dash and window tops probably refinished in late 80's.  See photos.  Tan top and headliner in very good shape.   All chrome bright work believed to have been re-plated in late 80's as it is in excellent shape.  It has a 4 speed column manual shift gearbox and Servo assisted hydraulic drum brakes.

Not much is known about this car prior to 1986 when the previous  owners  acquired the car in California.   In 1987 the 6 cylinder engine was professionally rebuilt by Walnut Creek Mercedes Repair in Walnut Creek. CA at 59. 00 miles. Between 1987 and 1993 it was driven approximately 3600 miles in California.   The couple moved to Utah in 1993 when the husband contracted ALS and passed away in 1995. Over those 20 years it was stored in the widow's garage and only driven a few miles a year in her neighborhood as the present mileage is less than 63. 00. which is thought to be original. however the speedometer works but the odometer hasn't for probably the last 500 miles.

Over the last 6 months it has been gone over by a professional Mercedes Mechanic to make it safe & more road worthy. He completed the following improvements & repairs :

All 5 of the 13" rims were sandblasted. powder coated black & include 4 original unpainted hubcaps.   5 new 13" tires are included. 5 used 14" rims were sandblasted. powder coated black and fitted with  5 new 14" Coker Classic wide white wall tires and they include the 4 painted hub caps pictured. 2 new brake lines and a rebuilt master cylinder were installed. The carburetor air cleaner was sandblasted and powder coated black. As the trunk lock was missing a used one was purchased. rebuilt by a locksmith and installed. The oil filter was repaired and the oil & filter was changed. A new electronic  fuel pump and fuel filter were added A used but working hood latch was installed Drained gas tank to insure it was clean and repaired gas gauge Side mirror was repaired with new mirror and correct used surrounding gasket 2 replacement windshield wipers were installed and mechanisms repaired Repaired choke making it operable Cleaned corrosion from battery & pan Checked alignment which was correct but corrected toe in that wasn't Corrected body and paint around running lights and behind radiator shell Installed new red top boot & rebuilt original sun visors also in red

Receipts are included to confirm most of the above repairs during the current and previous owner.

I wouldn't hesitate to drive the car on a 1. 00 mile or longer rally. The car is licensed and passed the state inspection to become licensed and registered in the state of Utah.

Heater is not working. and ventilation ducts are not complete or connected. Repair of non-original radio has not been attempted & clock. original temperature gauge doesn't work but an after market temperature gauge under dash does.  The car is in exceptional shape and drives and operates exceptionally well.
