1930 Willys Whippet Sports Coupe Rare 96A Tourer Parts in Hunter, NSW for sale
Current customer rating: (825 votes ) based onFor very reluctant sale is my 1930 Willys Whippet Dicky Seat Sports Coupe. This is an ultra rare 98B coupe body. Only 59 were made by Holden in 1930 and this is body #6. It is likely the oldest coupe body still in existence in Australia. and is possibly the only one remaining of this body type. I have never seen nor heard of another Australian built coupe. This was sold by the Overland Sydney dealers and the original brass dealers badge is included. which mounts to the firewall. This is a stunning body style. why settle for a typical tourer or sedan when you can have the sporty 2 door version no-one else has got?
The body was originally attached to a 6 cyl chassis. however is currently mounted on a 4 Cyl 96A chassis. also from 1930. and has been this way since at least the late 60's. I can supply leads to purchase a 6 cyl chassis if wanted (this deal comes with some 6 cyl parts). but really. why bother? The 4cyl are powerful. ultra reliable and can average 55 miles per gallon. The car was restored back in the 1970's. however the paint has now cracked and peeled on the main body.
The body is 100% complete and in excellent condition. virtually rust free (there is a small patch under the rear guards. The timber frame is solid and does not need replacing. She just needs the old cracked paint removed and a repaint.
The vinyl top is in fantastic condition and will not need replacing. This coupe has the super rare Landau irons. Just try replacing these babies!! Guards. valances all good and rust free. just need repainting. Headlights are good. Dicky lid has surface rust only as it has been stripped. Bumper and bumperettes are in great condition but will need rechroming. as will the luggage rack. Doors operate well. as does the swinging windscreen. Running boards could use new wood. but have good usable rubber matting and metal edging. The old boards are there for patterns. but are still usable should you wish.
It is still upholstered in original brown vinyl. and this is usable. the seats have no cracks rips or tears. The Dicky Seat has matching upholstery in good condition also. Roof lining would be usable with a clean. It has removable overlocked brown carpet on the cabin floor. but this needs replacing. however what's there is still usable and good for patterns. Door handles. window winders are there and work very well. All gauges are present and in good working order. Steering column has been recoe'd. including the finger-tip control box. the steering wheel wood needs a bit of work to be steamed back into shape around a couple of joints. All glass windows are as new without a mark. Door windows wind up/down effortlessly. Also included is an original roll down blind for the rear window. and a set of original 1930 aftermarket grab straps.
The engine has been part rebuilt. The cylinders have been rehoned. new rings fitted and all babbits checked for damage and clearances. Compression is excellent. Just needs new valve guides fitted (parts are included). valves reground/reseated and head refaced to be ready to go. I have been quoted $460 to get this work done professionally. There is a choice of carburettors. brass koalas or pot metal Tillottson JR-1A which has been fully rekitted. There is a box of new spark plugs. brand new ignition leads. delco-remy distributor (with new cap. rotor. points. condenser). brand new coil and new fan belt. There is also enough gasket material to make all new gaskets and several new copper head gaskets are included. There is a choice of 3 gearboxes. 2 are good to use. one is spare and has not been checked. Original tailshafts are there in good order and I have an Austin A40 one that I was going to fit. A fully reconditioned starter motor is included and the generator on the motor is good. The clutch plate has been resurfaced and the pressure plate is crack free. There are several flywheels. all with good teeth.
The front end has been reconditioned. The chassis has been stripped to metal and painted in self-levelling epoxy. The front end has new king pins and thrust bearings fitted and fully painted in epoxy. The leaf springs have been disassembled and painted individually. They have been reassembled with polyslide between each leaf. Tryon shackles have been retained. but cleaned. checked for wear (has none) and regreased. The very rare lever shocks have been disassembled. checked and repainted. All ball joints have been fully cleaned and checked for wear. The front brakes were completely disassembled. cleaned and painted. The pads are in very good condition with hardly any use. so I have retained these. The backs are in similar condition and will be safely usable with a clean.
The radiator and shroud are excellent. and a boyce moto meter is in place. Rear tail light is in good condition. Body remains fully wired. Wooden wheels are in good condition. could be repainted or soaked in linseed oil and would come up nice. Tyres are usable. Included in the sale are 2 fully reconditioned back wheels with stained and varnished spokes.
Fuel line is still in place. though the tank will need flushing to remove old fuel. There is a recoe'd vacuum tank but it also comes with a brand new 6V electric fuel pump. A near new exhaust pipe remains hanging on the car ready to hookup. Comes with an original jack. tyre lever/jack handle. foot pump and a recoe'd split rim tyre removal tool.
This package also comes with a 1929 model 96A tourer. 99% complete in parts (just missing hood) plus enough parts to build ½ a third car. There is one chassis which is rust free. 2 x Engines. 2 x gearboxes. several tourer bodies (including doors. tubs. guards. cowls). wheels. tyres. suspension. Gabriel snubbers. radiators. shrouds. headlights. timbers. tins and tins of nuts. bolts. bearings. timing chains. hub caps. starter motors. generators etc etc.
There is also a big box of literature. including repair manual. owner's manuals. rare original 20's and 30's literature and advertisements. plus a CD of photos and other documents. I will also throw in a full new tin of epoxy. enough paint to finish the chassis and rear suspension. this is valued at over $50 by itself. plus new tins of etch primer and miscellaneous other bits and pieces.
I am moving house and my new abode has no garage or room to store this collection. hence the heartbreaking decision to sell. She is currently in a storage unit. undercover. but there is no space to work on it. This is a very easy project for someone. the final result being a super rare. beautiful car that no-one else will have at any car shows or rallies you attend. Alternatively. the body would make an incredible hot rod.
Please. serious offers only. Thanks. Vehicle and parts are all in storage in Newcastle and must be picked up ASAP after sale. I'm happy to help load. The coupe is still on all 4 wheels and is easy to move.

Have a whippet 96a roadster project on the way. Does not seem anywhere near as complete as your coupe. If your car is still for sale, could be interested. could you contact me via email. Thanks.

Danke Andreas Reichel.
