Awesome 71 up for grabs. Factory westy bearing all its original interior. All the laminate in the cabinets is in amazing condition. No chips or cracks. Has icebox and sink. Fold down Z bed and all the other westy goodies you want. Original wood headliner and side panels as well. At 52k miles a new engine was installed and dual webers were added. All new bearings and seals. New pistons and cylinders. New crank. I have the receipts for the work. Currently at 58k original miles. At some point in the early 90's the previous owner added a bunch of engine monitoring VDO German gauges. Tachometer. oil temp. oil pressure. voltmeter. All old school and German and function. Normally I would kind of frown on this sort of mod. but it was done so long ago and the fact that their old school German VDO gauges makes it kind of badass. actually. The bus fires up right away and runs well even when it's cold considering there's no electric choke. The transmission was claimed to have been rebuilt along with the engine. I have no documentation on this. but I will say that it's the smoothest shifting and driving bus I've ever owned. All gears engage flawlessly and it shifts like a hot knife thru butter. The clutch is in great shape as well. Being that it's a 1971 it's the first year for disc brakes and last year for the type1 engine. Last year for the full early bay model and most collectable year for the bay. Being a hardtop westy makes it even more special. Now on to the pros and cons.  Pros:Rebuilt low milage 1641cc motor with dual Italian Weber 34ict carbs.  All new ignition and fuel lines 4 brand new tires mounted on 1/27/17 Full VDO instrumentation Amazing original condition interior Solid rear corners and battery trays.  Tow bar added that's mounted to the frame and is super solid. Euriba puck camper? Yes! Super straight body. All doors close properly and tightly.  Old school bug pack exhaust Good heater boxes and the heat works good!!! Only the 2nd bus I've ever had where it still functioned properly.  Awesome "BusBoys" sticker in the door jamb LOL. it's like 30 years old. There's a few other stickers on it showing where it's been. There's always room for more.  Everything electrical on the bus works. Lights. Hi/low beam. Turn signals. Brakes lights. Running lights. Reverse lights. Horn. With the exception of the gas gauge. It'll tell you when it feels like it. but sometimes it's not in the mood.  Original keys for ignition and doors. All doors lock with the one key.
Cons: Has lower rocker rust only. The slider door is NOT affected by this.  The doglegs are solid as well as the front lower nose and floor. but where the outer front floor meets the dogleg. there's isolated rust in that seam.
Was wired for push button start. I suspect a new ignition cylinoid will fix this issue. I have one I can include. I might even install it.
It stinks inside. There was a really nice family of mice that resided in the bus when I bought it. Although we cleaned it throughly and bleached down all of the interior. Some odor is still present. One mouse would move from front of the bus to the back of the bus while I worked on it. Maybe he was curious as to what was going on? He just watched me and my girlfriend work. We gave him the name George and he still may reside in the bus. If so. no worries. George is cool.
Overall this is a really great bus. I looked at some of the other early bay hardtop westies on some of those infamous vw bus websites and I'm placing mine under priced in comparison. There's some in better condition. but the interior is missing. I feel this is a 10k+bus. but I'll offer it for 6k with no reserve. You're the high bidder. it's all yours! With a little restoration it's worth well into the 20's This bus can be camped in and enjoyed right away. It could most likely make a long trip home. but I would advise against it unless you are air cooled savvy as it is a old machine and they do have a tendency to not be the most reliable.  But with a extra set of points/condenser and small tool box. I'd make the trip. personally.  Hope this machine finds a great home and happy bidding.  Cheers. nbsp;Dave.
