The Monterey is a full size model produced by Mercury from 1952 - 1974. Standard features included leather faced seats. a simulated leather headliner. wool carpets. chrome-plated interior garnish moldings. a two-toned dashboard. fender skirts and dual outside rearview mirrors. The heater and vent controls where levers placed on a plane set perpendicular to the dash and behind the steering wheel. 1954 saw the introduction of the new 292 ci (161 hp) overhead valve Ford Y-block V8 as well as a few other alterations such as new. lower taillights. This particular example was factory optioned with the Merc-O-Matic transmission. an AM radio (not working). a heater. tinted glass. white wall tires and windshield washers. This is a 4 owner car that was purchased by the current owner in 2002. It was sold new in Nebraska and has not been driven in the winter since it was brought to Illinois. It retains its original Gray paint and the roof was originally Red but was repainted about 35 years ago. The louvered hood is not original to the car but the original hood is available if desired. The interior is all original except for the front seat and carpet which were redone in their original colors about 5 years ago. The 292 ci V8 is not original to the car but is date code correct. The engine was completely rebuilt in 2001 and has approximately 18. 00 miles on it since. At the same time the engine was rebuilt the transmission was also overhauled and shifts crisply to this day. It has been mildly customized which included custom pinstriping. lowering the car 2 inches. adding a dual exhaust and it now has 15” rims that were painted to match the roof and are complimented by the chrome trim rings as well as the chrome baby moons.
