 Super Rare 1 of Two ever built Safari Grande Acapulco VW Thing 6 Door Limos. This IS A FANTASTIC PROJECT.  This car has a colorful history being featured in magazines and has been missing out of sight for years even being reported seen in a junkyard.

This car was ordered by a VW/Porsche dealership for its owner who lived in Hawaii. It was later sold and was at one time owned by a large hotel chain and served not only as a tourist attraction itself but as a shuttle. The former owner stated that it could be seen on an episode of Fantasy Island.

In an ad for the only other 6 door Thing. The seller stated that this car no longer existed. His car sold for over $30K Surprise. It does survive. Here is what happened.

The vehicle was scheduled for a total restoration for the hotel who owned it and brought back to main land. The shop that was hired to do the restoration had a series of personal setbacks and eventually closed the shop. The hotel chain who owned the car signed its interest over to the former owner of the shop as it was no longer feasible to return the car or complete the restoration.

Years had passed when the car was found in a back yard. It was rescued and brought to Ohio.

The car is non running and still needs a total restoration. There is no motor and is not running.  Has the IRS (transmission). Will need minimal work. All the hard part is done.  All the mechanical parts are common with the Beetle so would make a relative inexpensive resto. The pans have been replaced and are solid and all the hard to find body parts are here.

When doing research all the Thing specific parts are available including the top parts if you choose to put a roof on this wild ride.

I have a clean Ohio title in my name.

The wheels and tires pictured on the car are not part of the sale and will come with rollers. Wheels are a personal taste and while some may like how it looks now. nbsp;others may not. When you purchase the vehicle you can decide what you want and purchase your own. Wheels and tires are very inexpensive and if you are savvy at swapmeets or salvage yards even cheaper.  Even better. nbsp;wheel adapters make it easy to install any combination of wheels to any vehicle. VW's are the most popular. So you can add those old custom Chevy or Ford wheels you have been hanging on to!

Payment Terms



1. The winning bidder must contact me within 24 hours after the auction end and make arrangements for payment at that time. If no contact is made within 24 hours. I reserve the right to re-list the vehicle. sell it to the next high bidder. or sell it otherwise.  

2 $1000 is the deposit and must be received within 24 hours of auction end and will be non refundable. We do accept pay pall however not on vehicle sales.   So please do not make travel plans if the deposit has not been recieved. It doesn't matter if you are located 5 miles away or 5000 miles. The deposit must be made no exceptions. This is a serious auction and the terms are to identify deadbeats early on in the process.

3. Final payment must be received within 5 business days after close of auction.

4. Payment can be made by cashier's check. money order. or by bank wire transfer. I will not accept credit cards or Pay pal.



Shipping Terms



1. Purchaser to arrange for and pay any shipping costs.

2. Buyer is responsible for pick up or shipping of this vehicle within 3 weeks firm of auction end. If you wish to contract with a shipper. I will gladly cooperate
