1968 BUICK ELECTRA 225 CUSTOM for sale
Current customer rating:
This car is unique.
1968 Buick Electra 225 Custom 4 door pillarless hardtop which has done 10. 00 miles from new – yes ten thousand six hundred!
It is difficult to convey in words the joy of coming across a car (or any other object for that matter) that has remained totally untouched or 45 years. and has been kept in perfect storage for all that time. so that every detail is exactly as the manufacturer released it the year before the moon landing!
There are classics that have emerged. after staggeringly long periods of storage. which have a beautiful patina about them. and so you have to accept the faded paint or the faded carpets. dry upholstery and burst stitching. because it would be sacrilege to “restore” it.
Well. imagine a vehicle with unmarked factory chrome. stunning and utterly unmarked silver/green Brocade upholstery. unmarked carpets. headlining. unused cigarette lighters. Add perfect dash. instruments. steering wheel. rubbers. date coded seatbelts. you get the picture.
The silver grey paintwork. with the exception of a small area on one door (which may have been factory rework) is straight out of the Flint Michigan Buick plant - 1968.
Dealer sticker is on the boot lid. Ramme Buick. Illinois (still in business as a bodyshop)
Mechanically. same thing. 1968 date codes on the shockers. brake back plates. floors shiny new. wheel arches shiny new. engine bay. wiring all the same. Now in our litigious world I have to say there is surface rust of the light dusty variety. which has been treated to a light spray of Dinitrol 900 converter. and I couldn't resist a light dusting of black aerosol in places. just because I wanted to.
There are many photos on Picasa. the link is

I can't explain the feeling of sitting in this car and being conveyed back to 1968 and seeing what and how GM and those guys on the production line built cars 42 years ago.
I would also like to reach out to those people watching this ad. but who are not quite sure about the idea of owning a big American classic - you need to try one - this car is no heavier than an Audi A 8 (yes the Aluminium one!) narrower than a Jaguar XF. 4 inches narrower than an Audi A 7 Coupe. 1300 lb lighter than a Bentley Mulsanne and shorter than a Rolls-Royce Phantom. They may have been big in 1968. but so called "efficient" modern cars have caught up. and you can see out of it!! I would also pit it against a Mk 10 Jaguar or a Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow in a slalom race. and if you stand on the brakes. the finned Aluminium drums will put you through the screen!!
Please be aware though. I can't offer a test drive to every car enthusiast out there. so the test drive will be for a committed purchaser only - who. of course. needs to check the car out before completing the deal.
The brief to Bill Mitchell. head of design at GM during this time. was that these cars should be an effortless and soothing environment for a guy to leave the stress of work behind. close the door and in a sort of "extension of his living room" way. convey him to his home. Then. as now - that is exactly what they do.
