AUSTIN MINI - 1963 Austin Mini 850cc built to Downton SpecificationDuring the 1960's the Mini family was the most Successful Works Rally Car in the World. BMC used the Original Mini 850 from 1959 to 1963. In Standard form on a Single SU Carburettor the Engine developed 50bhp at best. Various Tuners set about developing the Car -the most successful of all was “Downton” this was the only Firm in the 60's to have BMC approval for the Sale of Tuning parts for the BMC Engines. Downton's most significant work was there Cylinder Head machining. Period Journalist Test drove “Downton Cars” recording O-60mph times of 9. 6 seconds and top speed of 103mph.
