NG TF 2+2 Tourer, professional build in 1998, 1 owner, 1500 miles from new! for sale

Current customer rating: current rating for this car(2.5) based on 367 votes

I have to admit that I was a little sceptical when I first acquired a NG TF. A ‘recreation' is perhaps not for me I thought. but now. having ‘lived' with and enjoyed BHJ 264J for a while. I have come to appreciate what a well designed. built and impressively good driving classic car it is.

If you have been looking for arguably one of the best NG TF's out there or perhaps are just looking for something a little different. something that will not actually ‘break the bank' to purchase then your search could be over with BHJ 264J. It was professionally built to a very high standard and specification then registered in 1998 (although it has a 1971 registration and is therefore tax exempt) for its one and only owner. Rather amazingly during the past 18 years it has only travelled approximately 1500 miles. Hence its outstanding overall condition we find it in today. Despite its little use it has always been properly stored and maintained. BHJ 264J has a current MOT. is on the button and ready to go straight away.

To make things a little interesting BHJ 264J (BHJ from now on) is going to be sold with a genuine NO RESERVE and will start at just £1. So. once you have read the full description and are happy with everything you have read and seen. please leave your best bid at a level you are comfortable with knowing that you have a very good chance of owning this beautiful example. One. I can assure you. you will be proud to own. use and enjoy.

I make no apologies for the length of the description that follows. as I have found from selling a number of classic cars on ebay that the genuine and serious buyers out there appreciate an honest and in depth view. especially if perhaps they are based overseas. However. I would also strongly recommend and urge you to come and view the car if you can. to make sure you are 100% satisfied for yourself. This is a 10 day auction that is spread over two weekends giving you plenty of opportunity to view and inspect the car prior to the auctions end.

About Me

I have been around classic cars for over 35 years. restoring and racing them. I enjoy and specialise in classic cars of the 60's & 70's in the main. Through my contacts I love unearthing good. well restored or highly original unmolested examples and then take great satisfaction passing them on to other enthusiasts. I have. I believe. built up over the years a good reputation for dealing with people in an honest and straightforward manner and I only ever deal in classic cars that I would be delighted to own for myself. For your further peace of mind. at the end of this description is a testimonial about my service and just some of the genuine feedback I have received from other satisfied buyers.

About NG Cars

“Leaders by Design” is the company's motto. one that was formed back in 1979 by Nick Green. Nick had an aeronautical and automotive design engineering back ground and started his career with Associated Engineers; a large manufacturer of car components and throughout his life had an interest in car re-construction. Over a period of nine months he developed his first NG model TA which appeared in Motor Sport magazine in October 1979. This car went some way to honouring the Aston Martin International of the 1930's.

The TA was a huge success and Nick over the coming years. through customer demand. would go on to design and produce three more models the TF. TD and the TC. Each one quite different to the other. The TF has become the most popular by far.

The NG range was designed to provide the exhilaration and style of traditional motoring without all the problems and expenses that are inevitable with such older cars from the 1930's. 40's and 50's. Additionally. NG's have the tremendous advantages of more modern standards of refinement. reliability and comfort which makes them much easier and more enjoyable to drive. especially under today's road conditions.

The simple but very effective basis of the design is a superbly tough and rigid jig welded cruciform chassis. The one piece GRP body bolts onto the chassis combining lightness with stiffness. The suspension and drive train are sourced from the MGB which we know is not only very robust but economical to maintain. With the torquey 1800cc and twin carb engine. the NG TF has excellent performance and economy. With the advantage of not only reduced weight and body overhang but also the torsional stiffness of the NG body/chassis unit. the handling is probably the NG's greatest asset and never fails to impress with its incredible tautness and sure footed behaviour.

About BHJ 264J

For me. what makes any classic car extra special is not just its condition. but its history or provenance. Fortunately. with BHJ I do not think it can get much better in terms of known and documented history from new. The file goes right back to 1993 when our one long term owner a Mr Julian Brett was obviously looking into acquiring a NG as we have the original sales brochure from this time and some correspondence from NG cars themselves. It is quite clear from looking through the file that Julian was a very thorough and meticulous man as it would appear that he has kept and filed every piece of correspondence and literature appertaining to the acquisition. build and maintenance of BHJ from way back in 1993 right through to 2016.

With a NG build you can pick and choose your specification (the history file even has samples of the cockpit materials in it) and from looking through the many invoices from NG cars it is clear that Julian wanted the best spec for his NG. also this was not to be a home build but a professional one and he intrusted the services of classic car specialists. Marquis Cars to complete the project. In total. back in 1998 BHJ cost £13. 00 to finish.

I have to say Marquis cars did a very fine job as the attention to detail throughout the car is excellent. The installation of the brake lines. fuel lines. wiring etc. is all very neat and tidy. As for the specification BHJ is full of nice features such as a fold down windscreen. period style oval wing mirrors (that you can actually see out of!). leather adjustable seats with a nice contrasting green piping. a moto-lita steering wheel. a quality and beautifully fitted full tonneau cover. hood and side screens. an aluminium Monza fuel filler cap. period style front wing mounted indicators. traditional wipers. a burr walnut dashboard. inertia seat belts. subtle green wing piping and whilst not fitted at present. BHJ comes with a pair of wind deflectors that fit onto the windscreen.

The engine and gearbox are excellent. The engine has 40 psi oil pressure when warm and ticking over and goes up to 70 psi when used which shows to me. that the engine was no doubt rebuilt prior to installation. As for some of the mechanical detail the engine has an oil cooler fitted. electronic ignition. an alternator. a thermostatically controlled cooling fan. a LCB exhaust fitted to a stainless steel rear exhaust system and a nice aluminium rocker cover fitted. The battery which was replaced recently and is nicely located for weight distribution to the near side rear corner and is easily accessible. It has a battery master cut off fitted which is excellent for security and avoiding any battery drain.

The bodywork and paintwork overall are in very good shape as you would expect from such a low mileage example. Having said that there is the odd blemish and mark to the paint finish to be found if you look hard enough. This is a 2+2 design and there are two little bench type seats in the rear suitable really for children or this area can provide a surprising amount of storage space.

The mileage can be verified with every MOT issued to BHJ from the first one dated 16th March 1998 showing 77. 00 miles (this would have been the clocks mileage from the donor MGB and essentially BHJ was at zero miles) to the current MOT dated 21st July 2016 showing 79. 16 miles. So in other words. just 1448 miles in 18 years! Part of the reason for such low mileage is that from 2004 until 2015 BHJ was kept in a CarCoon storage system and SORN'd. Almost needless to say we have every consecutive SORN notification in the file. In the past 2 years. Julian in order to have BHJ recommissioned after its ‘hibernation' invested another £1628 to make sure everything was working properly.

Driving Experience

In case you were wondering about fitting into BHJ I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of footwell room you have. I am 6ft and I can adjust the seat back to a point where I almost cannot reach the pedals.

BHJ is a joy to drive. it starts up nicely and has a really lovely soft burble to the exhaust note. The gear shift is short and precise. As soon as you set off you can feel the overall ‘tightness' of the car which confirms its low use as well as its rigid design. The engine goes well and can be pushed all the way if needs be with no complaints. The handling is very sure footed and you soon feel confident in pushing through the corners a little harder which brings a smile to your face.

I have had Caterham 7's in the past. which are great fun but not really for long journeys however with BHJ you get many of the same thrills of a 7 but with the comfort to allow you to go on longer trips. For instance. I took BHJ to Sywell Classic Car and Air show recently and with the side screens only fitted my son and I could chat away without getting blown to bits! How very civilised……or am just getting a little older and prefer my creature comforts these days?!

History File

As previously mentioned the history file is literally packed with information. BHJ comes with a current red style log book and is correctly registered as a NG. There are literally dozens of invoices and all the MOT's issued including its current one which is valid until 6th August 2017. There is a club for NG's called Changing Gear and there are a number of past issues present as well as Julian's membership cards. There are several letters from NG Cars to Julian during the build and some original sales brochures as well.

If you are successful in acquiring BHJ you will become only the 2nd registered owner.

Please read these simple conditions of sale before bidding – Thank you and good luck if you decide to bid. you not be disappointed.

Conditions of Sale

As you can see I have a 100% history on ebay and I am a firm believer in doing business in an honest and straightforward manner. I have tried to give a truly reflective and in depth description but you must decide if this is the car for you. you are most welcome to view the car by arrangement. if you bid without viewing that's fine by me because I have done that in the past myself but you must also honour the deal and go through with it regardless on that basis. Please. if you are bidding from overseas take into account exchange rates. transport costs and any import tax you may be liable to pay before bidding.

The car will only be sold via ebay and I will let it run to the very end. so it will NOT be sold early at any price. I believe this gives everyone who has shown an interest in the car a clear and fair opportunity to bid and hopefully win the car. I have NOT advertised it elsewhere. If it helps I am able to deliver the car for a sensible fee. I have access to a trailer or BHJ could be driven to you. I am happy to deal with overseas bidders and able to assist in transportation as long as cleared funds are in place. Any questions please feel free to ask via ebay.

If you have 10 or less feedback ratings could you please make contact via ebay to advise me of your intentions before bidding. I would like the winning bidder to at least contact me within 24 hours of the finish date to discuss payment and collection details. Cleared funds will be required before the vehicle is delivered or released. no Paypal payment due to their high charges. Payment and collection within seven days of the auction end. If you cannot meet this timescale please contact me before bidding.

Testimonials

For a bit of further peace of mind please see below an email I received from another happy customer on receiving his car in Australia. which he bought ‘blind' and I helped with the shipping. followed by some genuine feedback comments from other satisfied classic car buyers via ebay.

Hi Cameron. /span>

This morning i had my first look at the 504 Coupe. and i am extremely happy. and i could not be more thrilled about your honesty and integrity in describing the car.

The 504 is basically exacltly how you described it which is a credit to yourself. As you described. one or two small blemishes in the paint but on the whole a very very clean and immaculate car.

i'm still coming to grips with how unused the interior looks its just fantastic. im thrilled to bits over the car. very very happy.   Once primed with fuel she started first piston up and ran like a swiss watch.

I wont be able to take delivery of the car for another few days because the quarantine inspection is not happening until tuesday morning.

so all in all cameron a very good result. thanks for all your assitance and help and most importantly allowing me the oppurtunity to purchase the car from england. im very very happy with the car. also i sincerely hope that you have now received the outstanding amount. please if you could confirm for me whether or not you have received it yet. it should have been there days ago now.

Many Regards

Leon. /span>
