1968 Jaguar E Type 2+2 series 1.5 coupe - LHD Project Car - No Reserve for sale
Current customer rating: (303 votes ) based onRestoration project Jaguar E type. LHD 1968 2+2 auto. series 1. 5 import. originally primrose with black. matching numbers. heritage certificate included.
- the car needs a total restoration. has the advantage of being a series 1. 5. clearly was off the road many years having been stripped for body restoration. The floors have been repaired and bits and pieces here and there but it still needs much more. Assume work is needed on every single part of the body to correct rust issues- sills. boot floor. doors etc. At some stage a second bonnet was dismantled to provide solid good condition inner panels which are included. the bonnet itself is loosely bolted across the top seam but is not stable and needs lots of work before the reinforcers can be fitted. The frames look OK. The seats are complete but the leather is dry and poor throughout.
The engine. gearbox. prop. rear axle. front suspension. steering are all in place although the prop joint is disconnected. The engine is free but assume. depending on the mileage indicated on the speedo (53000) that it will probably need work. Fitted with twin strombergs from new.
A nice touch is that the original body number is still crayoned on the tailgate inside from when it was done in 1968 - and the steering wheel is lovely!
I photographed some of the dismantled parts. I think the car is largely complete but what I think is missing or damaged is:- (excluding things that would be worn out. carpets. seals. exhaust etc)windscreenheadlinertailgate glass (there but cracked)header tanksome of the exterior chrome finshers - screen base and top. cantrail trims. tailgate glass trims1 sidelight (maybe)grille barfront overiders (there but v poor)spare and tools
If you can't see something important ask and I can say if I have it.
So - adding up the value of the parts alone must exceed the start price. but as a matching number car in a great colour scheme it would be a shame not to restore it. its a potentially low cost way into E type ownership if you can do things yourself! "Every part probably needs something - its beyond me!"
For registration. hopefully one day. the import duties paid document is to hand so all thats' needed in an MOT (!).
The parts would be loaded into the car / boxed where possible for collection via a trailer from the West Midlands. the car rolls and steers. the tyres are old but inflated.
