This is a wonderful E-Type. certainly one of the nicest and most sorted examples we have seen. It is a 1966 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 2+2. It is finished in Opalescent Dark Blue with Blue Leather. one of the best colour schemes we have seen.
It is difficult to imagine the impact that the Jaguar E-type had when it was launched back in 1961. When the average saloon had a top speed of 70 mph and most were desperately dull. the E-type was an instant sensation. pre-empting computer aided design. The pre-eminent aerodynamist Malcom Sayer uniquely applied complex mathematical formulae to create the stunning E-type shape. Ironically he hated being called a stylist. yet he designed what is arguably one of the most beautiful car ever seen. Today manufacturers build hundreds of prototypes when developing a new car. Jaguar built just a handful of cars prior to launch. the story of the E-type is legendary around the globe.
With its top speed of 150 mph and a price tag of £2196 for the FHC. it was less than half the price of any of its contemporaries from either Italy or Germany. The E-type moved the goal posts and it set an entirely new agenda. The series 1 is by far the prettiest E-type whether open. coupe or 2 + 2. The glass headlamp covers and the pre US front and rear lights combine with a proper Jaguar dashboard that the later cars just didn't get.
This car was supplied by Classic Jaguar specialists CMC Ltd. and under their care subject to a thorough period of upgrading and improving for the fastidious previous owner. Indeed. there are invoices on file for over £48. 00 in recent restoration work from the same firm. The car. as you might believe. is now is in a superb condition in every respect.
A summary of recent work includes: Top end rebuild. clutch. new hubs and wire wheels. upgraded seats with belts all round. carpet. stereo system. gearbox rebuild. new bonnet assembly. full respray. a complete restoration in reality.
The car now drives superbly and better than when it left the factory. I cannot think there is a better S 1 2+2 in the market today and with prices of the FHC going through the roof. this more practical and useable car represents great value. The colours are superb and I am currently using her every day. waiting for the summer to arrive.
If you have kids or like the idea of a sports car with extra touring capacity. the 2+2 is a great option and this car is ready for regular use. there is nothing to do. simply use and enjoy.
