1972 2. 4S Targa

The pre impact bumper 911 Targa 2. 4S was made from 1972 to 1973. In 1972 989 Targa models left the production line all with the oil filler cap located behind the right hand door. Porsche moved the oil tank nearer the middle of the car for optimum weight distribution in 1972 only to be forced to move it back in 1973 due to American customers in particular using it incorrectly as a fuel filler. No such treatment befell this Italian supplied car . The 1972 model is therefore regarded as the perfect handling Porsche 911 and the most desirable. The 2. 4 S Targa produced 190 bhp at 6500 rpm  with a compression ratio of 8. 5:1 that gave it a projected top speed of 147mph. nearly equalling the performance of the infamous production homologation special. the legendary 1973 RS. which was based on it.  Only the displacement of 2. 4 litres verses 2. 7 and a different  cam in the fuel injection pump separates the two models mechanically. Most 2. 4S cars were fitted with the more comfortable Koni Sport shock absorbers as this car is. As the 2. 7 RS was not made in Targa form the 2. 4S Targa is the most powerful classic long bonnet 911 produced and is now attracting a solid following.

This superb example benefits from a cosmetic respray in its original and very popular colour Gemini Blue Metallic and has the optional Recaro Sports seats and is certified with matching numbered engine and gearbox.

Prices of Targa's have risen steadily because the dynamic of ownership has changed to investment cars that can also be enjoyed and having languished behind the more aesthetically pleasing Coupe the focus is turning to the much more practical and enjoyable Targa. The 911 2. 4S Targa is now categorised understandably as a true collectors vehicle helped no doubt by the news of the launch of the new Targa model from Porsche that incorporates its early stainless steel roll over hoop design. It won't be long before prices of the 2. 4S Targa eclipse those of the Coupe so this example represents a true investment opportunity.

The superb original example has been in private ownership in the UK since early 2015 and serviced by the main specialists for these classic Porsche models and is supplied fully serviced and ready to be used.
