As mentioned in my other listing for my 944 Turbo I have reluctantly come to the conclusion that I am never going to get to the end with my 2 914s hence they are both for sale. hopefully to an enthusiast who will give them the time they deserve and finish them off.
I purchased these whilst living overseas and have done a lot of work on them both and it is really only mechanical work that is required to put them back on the road. Neither of these cars are restoration projects requiring bodywork or welding. That is not to say that they are 100% rust free but they are both pretty good and solid. They are to all intents and purposes complete with everything in the right place but not necessarily connected!
Lets start with the yellow one.
This is a 1974 1. 8. with engine code EC.  When I bought it about 5 or 6 years ago I was surprised at how solid the body was for a 40 year old car. There were one or two areas that needed patch welding but nothing serious. The engine was removed and the body stripped back virtually to bare metal including the underside. The car was then re-painted in the original colour - Chrome Yellow - and I started to put it all back together having purchased new rubbers and seals etc for both Roger Bray and 914 Rubber in the US. The interior was as one might expect with cracks on the dash and tears in the seats. I had the seats re-upholstered in leather with yellow stitching and even if I say so myself they look pretty good and a lot better than the original offerings from Porsche! The dash was also recovered in leather with yellow stitching and whilst they have done a good job it is not perfect but a lot better that what was there before.  The engine has been re-installed in the car but that is all i. e. nothing has been re-connected. It was always my intention to replace all rubber hoses and this is still required. The engine still has its original fuel injection system fitted but as I say nothing is connected up but it is all there.
I removed the disc pads to make moving the car around my garage easier and I also purchased calliper overhaul kits from Roger Bray although I have not done the work yet.
When I say nothing is connected up that only applies to the engine and ancillaries as all the instruments are in place and the wiring is complete although obviously not tested. The fuel tank was removed to be painted and this is also not connected although it is back in place . The connections can be accessed from beneath the car though.
The car sits on Riviera wheels which were a popular option in the USA and they are fitted with brand new Dunlop tyres which are a little wider that they should be but just miss the arches. The steering wheel in the pictures actually belongs to the silver car and the yellow cars correct steering wheel is in the silver car. They can be swapped back if required.
I am not going to list here everything that has been done to the car neither can I list what needs to be done as firstly I probably cannot remember and secondly I would assume that anyone with a real interest will want to come and have a look first. Both cars are in my garage and I have a car lift so inspections can be as detailed as you want.
Now the silver car.
This is a 1975 car with a 2. 0 engine with code GA. I bought it at the same time as the yellow one - don't ask me why! It appealed to me with the modifications that have been made to it. I am sure the purists will probably throw up at the sight of it but it looks low and mean and actually this conversion was quite popular. There was an almost identical car that raced in NZ - I have a picture somewhere. My intention with this car had been to put a 911 engine into it and make it go but as always happens with plans - they get waylaid! This car is in fact all connected up and if you connected a battery the lights work and the engine will crank. sadly the fuel injection system is missing although some of the bits are there and it is fitted with a carb that looks like it came form a pickup. There is also however a Weber twin choke carb on a manifold with the car. Ideally this should have twin Webers unless you want to trace all the bits to restore the fuel injection.
The car is pretty solid in all the important places but I have not gone over this car in the same details as the other one. It has been resprayed though as the paintwork was very dull. The original colour according to the door sticker is black. The GT arches are fibreglass not metal.
You will note that the pop up lights are no longer there. I do have all the bits required to restore to pop ups and these will be included.
The interior on this car is excellent. The dash is intact and has no cracks whatsoever and the seats are pretty good also with the original basket weave pattern. The passenger seat does have a small tear but that could be repaired I believe.
This car could be on the road fairly quickly I would imagine as if you connect a battery the engine will turn over and the lights etc all seem to work but I haven't checked everything so don't expect to be able to put a gallon or two in the tank and get it going. You might get a shock and it might start but I doubt it!!!
There you have it - there is a lot more that I could write but I don't expect anyone to be interested in either car without a detailed inspection so will leave the description there.
- I am open to offers for one or both cars. - I am open to offers of a part ex/swap for one or both cars- I would consider swapping both my 914s for a running road legal 914- Or for something different - you finish one of mine off and return to me road legal and you get the other one FOC!
If any specific pictures are required let me know. likewise any specific questions please ask.
I am happy to have a chat and in many ways this is preferable.
One further point - neither of these cars are presently registered in the UK however when I brought them back 2 years ago they were both cleared with all duties etc paid under the NOVA scheme. You just need an application form and MOT to get them registered.
