SELLER REMARKS

Limousines have always been an interesting prospect to collectors. Typically top-of-the-line when they're new. they often represent a massive bargain later on. Cars such as this 1979 Lincoln Town Car limousine still offer tremendous luxury and a ton of prestige. some limited-production cachet. all at a shockingly reasonable price. In terms of sheetmetal for the dollar. there's nothing better!

This particular Lincoln is an interesting one: purchased new in 1979 by the current owner. it was delivered to a custom coachworks in Michigan to have six inches added to its length. along with a division window inside for privacy. There's no denying its Lincoln DNA. and even without the stretch this was the biggest car you could buy in 1979. and it's got a ton of presence. The baroque styling has aged well. giving it a period look that says Lincoln far better than anything they're building today. and the stretch is so neatly incorporated into the look that it appears factory-built. With just one owner (yep. she's 105 years old now!). it's led a good life. but the original black paint is a bit tired and could use a freshening if you're going to put it into service. which wouldn't be a bad idea. However. other details like the vinyl half roof. the chrome. and the traditional Lincoln folding headlights are in good condition. This sucker's still impressive!

The red velour interior is still the pinnacle of luxury in 1979. with pillow-tufted seats that you sink into rather than sit on top of. The six-inch stretch makes for massive space in the rear compartment. yet the driver's area is unaffected so it's comfortable as well. The upholstery. carpets. and headliner remain in excellent condition and the door panels are just beautiful with their combination of cloth. faux wood. and vinyl. all of which is in great shape. Everything was standard on the Town Car. and it's all intact here. including A/C. cruise control. power windows. plus what is surely one of the earliest car phones in existence. Both front and rear areas have their own AM/FM stereo radios. as well as separate A/C systems and an intercom. which is traditional limousine equipment. The conversion added some custom lighting and curtains in back. which. along with tinted windows. makes it feel private and secure. And if you need trunk space. only a pickup will haul more luggage than this massive Town Car.

To move all that sheetmetal. you get a 400 cubic inch V8 that purrs along almost silently. delivering modest performance that never disturbs its occupants. It idles smoothly and never gets raucous. which wouldn't be appropriate. and on the highway. you probably haven't been in a quieter car. There's plenty of evidence of careful service throughout its life. including some new A/C equipment (although the system needs to be serviced). A 3-speed automatic transmission was the only choice and it. too. is a good servant with unobtrusive shifts and quiet competence. and with highway-friendly gears out back. this is a great way to take a road trip. The suspension is pillow soft. as you'd expect. and cars like this just wouldn't be possible without power steering and brakes to help out. A new exhaust system keeps it appropriately hushed and original hubcaps give it a dignified look inside 235/75/15 whitewall radials.

We get frequent calls from young brides looking for a unique old car for their wedding. and a car like this would be an ideal opportunity for an entrepreneurial person to start a vintage car livery service. Or maybe you just dig old limousines. which is a growing segment of the hobby. Either way. this is a unique. handsome. and fun Lincoln with a lot of promise. Call today!
