1966 Ford Fairlane Squire Station Wagon Woody Unmolested Surf Wagon V8 Auto, PAS

My Springtime Yellow 1966 Ford Fairlane Squire “woody” station wagon was imported some 3-4 years ago. The first UK owners freshened up the sun bleached paint. where required and had the faded wood-effect side panels replaced with a wood grain vinyl “wrap” material. They also had the seats recovered prior to the car's appearance at the Goodwood Revival in 2015. The wagon took part in the Gassers Parade. I bought the car last Autumn for top Dollar. intended as a “keeper” which I could drive on a daily basis if I chose. but a serious health scare a few weeks back has reluctantly convinced me to reduce the number of classics I own.

The Fairlane is believed to be the only one to this spec in the UK. It drives beautifully with a standard 289 cu in V8. C4 automatic transmission. power assisted steering and manual brakes. It is a very original example. which still has all its original “smog” gear attached. plus air conditioning. The belt that would operate both has been disconnected. presumably for better fuel economy. All the a/c equipment seems to be present. so there is no reason why it could not be recommissioned. The speedo reads some 47. 00 miles. which appears to be genuine. The gauges and the original AM/FM radio all work. bar the clock.

The wheels are Ansen slot mags. allegedly dating from the mid-Sixties. I can neither confirm. nor deny that. but they suit the period and the surf wagon look. The interior is very clean and the estate bed is cavernous. with a large. hidden. storage compartment underneath the bed. which would have been the footwell on the 9 seater version. where the rear bench seat faced backwards. The tailgate both opens sideways and folds down. which is an unusual and useful feature. The rear window is electrically operated from both a switch on the dashboard and the tailgate key. The rather garish white and yellow number plates seen in one or two of the older photos I took soon after buying the car. have been replaced with black States Plates examples with a black background and white lettering. I'll include the originals. if you prefer them.

The car was MOTed in early May 2016 and passed with flying colours. The red rear indicators have been converted to amber by rewiring the reversing light lenses as indicators using orange bulbs. The wiring mods are reversible. should one ever want to convert them back. I bought a complete set of new upper and lower halogen headlamps just before my health scare which would have enabled the sidelights/parking lights to be installed in the upper headlight units. Due to my tablets. I've been told not to work on cars for a while. so they remain in their boxes and could be included in the deal. if the price is right.

As seen in the photos. the front bumper has minor damage as a result of an incident on the return from the MOT. It is purely cosmetic. as the accident happened at very low speed and a cheap fix. I simply do not have the time and inclination to get it sorted. so my asking price reflects this.
