located in county armagh n. ireland bt 66 postcode is this southampton uk built 1973 ford transit mk 1 . this 2. 4 york diesel . twin wheel panel van . was exported from the uk to malta in 1978 at 5 years old where it spent the last 37 years in the dry climate . apparently it was owned new by a uk tarmac company and was originally olive green . i recently restored the van as last years winter project . metal wise the van was in very good condition to start with requiring only a small section of the lower part of the passenger door skin replaced . everything else is totally original and solid . i took it to my local vosa test station to get a list before the paintwork was finished . it required new rear wheel cylinders . brake pipes . kingpins and the front brakes adjusted to reduce the imbalance on the front axle.

while at it . i had fitted .

new front and rear lights . seatbelts . track rod ends and drag link ends . bottom radiator hose . timing and fan belt . front and rear door rubbers . handbrake cable . chrome mirrors and chrome rear door handle . FORD badges on the grille and had the original radiator re-cored . the wheel nuts on the passenger side of the van are left hand thread . it still has the cold start instruction sticker on the windscreen . very retro indeed .

with an oil change she was then presented for mot and passed without any problem .

she was then painted inside and out in ford lagoon blue and ford ermine white in 2 pack paint . the original wheel rims were stripped . sandblasted and powder coated and 6 new tyres fitted . the van is showing just over 65000 miles on the clock and is driving nicely . very easy to start with the new heating solenoid fitted which is unusual for the york engine .

she runs smoke free when she warms up and changes gear smoothly .

i had her on the motorway this evening and she would only do 55 mph as the adjusting bolts on the throttle linkage are set to restrict her to that speed i have found.

with a few turns of these adjusting bolts she will go on faster .

the van is free road tax due to its age and easy to run being diesel .

i have another winter project lined up for this year so need to make a bit of room in the shed .

this van is about 15 feet ( 5 metres ) long so needs a fair bit of space to park her .

the steering is very light with the new kingpins fitted and easy to manoeuvre in confined spaces .

overall a nice van and in good overall condition .

the interior of the cab needs a bit of tidying . the seats are torn so i have fitted hard wearing seat covers to make them a bit more presentable .

the door cards will need painted as the black is wearing off them with age .

the rubber floor mat needs a good clean .

so a usable classic van to enjoy as it is . or improve the interior as you wish .

the van can be viewed at weekends due to my work schedule .

i can help arrange delivery to uk mainland if required by either low loader company or car transporter company . i can get a price to your postcode area if you wish . cash upon collection or cleared funds before release .

usual 10 positive ebay feedback otherwise you will need to contact me to stop me deleting your bid .

a deposit of £200 via paypal will be required within 24 hrs of agreeing to buy . non payers will be reported to ebay and pursued for the resisting fees so don't make an offer if you haven't the funds .

this is a buy it now or best offer . not an auction . i decide whether to accept or decline your offer . thats how it works .

this van will mean a lot to transit enthusiasts like myself as I've had a good few over the years and still love the classic lines of the mk 1 . this probably won't be my last either I'm sure .

for the time being she needs a new home so any questions feel free to ask . plenty of photos of the restoration if you need them . thanks for looking . regards gerry tel 5981
