Current customer rating: current rating for this car(2.05) based on 427 votes
For sale is a 1988 Saab 900 Turbo with 5 speed manual transmission. black with beige interior.
$500 instant rebate! Yes. whatever the end price is I will knock $500 off instantly.  The *only* real issue on this car is that it needs a new power steering rack. An entirely new one can be bought AND installed by a professional shop for $500 or less. so I'm giving you a $500 discount right off the bat. The power steering hasn't worked ever since I've owned the car and I have no problem driving it without; it's really not a big deal at all. So just keep the $500 if you want and spend it down the pub.
Please. please. please do not bid if you are not a serious buyer.  Please read the *entire* description *thoroughly* before bidding.  Also. I highly recommend you look at this car in person before bidding. as I would any car at all.  If you are not able to. please ask questions about anything that is important to you before bidding and be very reasonable in your expectations of this 30 year old car.

This car is in fantastic shape. especially for its age. Has always been maintained. Has a huge stack of service records and receipts. New or recently replaced parts everywhere you look. I would say it's perfectly reasonable to call this car lightly restored. in fact. I would drive it across country and not hesitate. and it looks as good as it runs and drives.

I have owned the car a little over a year and been prideful in keeping everything working and looking good. with few exceptions that I shall describe here.

Less-Than-Perfect Features:
-Sagging headliner (like all 900s).
-Cracked dash (like all 900s).
-Typical used car wiper marks on the windshield (I got a quote to install a brand new one for $140 out the door).  Small crack as well at the very bottom.
-The cruise control unfortunately stopped working recently. I have had the system checked and it's been determined that it's merely one of the pedal switches. Easy fix.
-The very cool. factory stereo equalizer has become intermittent so I've disabled it. Factory radio works well.
-Like your average old car it has a very minor oil leak. although I feel it would not be considered serious enough for most people to even mention but my policy is full disclosure and honesty.
-Windshield washer works but it needs a new reservoir-to-pump seal. The fluid leaks out.

Good-to-Hear Features:
-Maybe with the exception of a burnt out gauge bulb or two. *everything* else on this car works unless it's been mentioned above. Power windows. power mirrors. power sunroof. heated seats. the list goes on and on.
-Absolutely no rust or even bubbling on the body. Wheel arches and other choice areas recently protected with Fluid Film. Undercarriage is typical of any Ohio car but no holes or serious rot.
-The original passive restraint seat belts that the '88 Turbo came with. which most people find very annoying. have been properly replaced with very nice traditional belts from an '87. -Has a highly convenient keyless entry system installed.
-Tires are only a year old with low miles.
-The Air Conditioner has JUST been completely gone through and works great. Fully recharged with R134A. new seals everywhere. new receiver dryer. the works.  Note that the AC only works in the high fan position for some weird reason that I don't fully understand. but it does work and work well.
-The car is always garage kept. In fact. the main reason I'm selling it is because I want my garage space back and feel this car is too nice to keep outside.  If you're going to buy it and keep it outside. that's your call.
-Has the highly-coveted and excellent-looking Aero wheels and rear vent covers as well as the clear turn signal lenses.
-Cloth seat upholstery is flawless.
-A couple dings in the driver's door but that's about it. Very straight car overall.
-The transmission was replaced not long ago with a rebuilt unit that apparently came from the official Saab-certified shop.
-Comes with boxes. boxes. and more boxes of spare parts! (see note below)-Includes original owner's manual. atlas. and other literature in leather folder and even the original window sticker!

This car needs nothing. Just hop in and drive away.

This is a 30 year old car. keep in mind. I've seen 10 year old cars that look worse. to be sure. but please keep your expectations reasonable.

Everyone that knows Saabs that has seen this car has been impressed and agreed that it's "one of the good ones. "

If you do some Googling you will find a host of articles written recently which all suggest that the Saab 900 Turbo will be the collector car of the near future. Get in while the getting's good.

I'm told that the 1988 model year is the "best year" for the c900. The parking brake goes to the rear wheels. it has better brakes overall. the wiring harness is better than the decomposable ones of other years. and so on.

Selling because I want my garage space back and because I'm a lover of cool. old cars and I'm ready for my next toy.
A car exactly like this sold for $4500 here on ebay not too long ago with over 20 bidders.  It was the same model year. even the same color. it just had fewer miles.  My reserve price is well below that and therefore very reasonable in my mind.  Similar cars sell for as much and more on SaabNet all the time as well.

Clean and clear Ohio title in my name.

The car is sold completely AS IS and WHERE IS.  No warranty or guarantee of any kind.  Buyer is to arrange and pay for any and all shipping if needed.  I will facilitate meeting a hauler if you are having it shipped but cannot be involved beyond this.
$200 PayPal deposit due with 48 hours of auction's end.  Full payment due in cash or cashier's check within 7 days.  Car must be removed from premises within 7 days.

NOTE: There are far too many spare parts to load into the car or probably even load into a full size pickup.  I cannot and will not facilitate shipping all this stuff to you if you're not local.  If you buy the car but are not local. you forfeit any and all spare parts that you can't take with you and/or that can't be loaded into the car and/or hauler.  Some of you may not even want any of this stuff in the first place. in which case I'm not going to force you to take it.
I'm happy to answer any questions or send any photos to the best of my abilities.
Remember. I will knock off $500 from whatever the end price is!
Thanks for looking!

ADDED INFORMATION
A few more things:-To clarify what I said above. the undercarriage being typical of an OH car does indeed mean that it's a bit crusty in places.  Again. there are no holes or issues that I consider serious. but a bit crusty.  The very bottom of the doors does have some brownish coloring starting on the outside.  The insides looks to have been recoated.  My solution to all of this has been to keep it garaged and out of bad weather. especially salty roads.  The alternate solution may be to spend a weekend coating it all with rust encapsulating paint.  I think I'm correct in saying that the upper rear shock towers are the big caveat on these cars (that's what I've heard).  They seem to be perfectly fine on this one.  Again. crusty looking but not structurally weakened at all.  I have added a couple photos to show these areas.  On a related note. shortly after getting the car I replaced the rear coil springs.  Everything came apart surprisingly well to do the job and I did not see any issues that caused me alarm.  Please ask to see more photos of the undercarriage if you are concerned.
-Concerning the oil leak: Yesterday afternoon after driving the car around a bit I put some cardboard under the engine to gauge the extent of the leak.  After sitting most of yesterday afternoon and overnight. there was a drip about the size of a 50 cent piece on the cardboard today.  So pretty minor in my mind. especially when remembering that the cardboard sort of seeps the oil into the surrounding area a little and makes it a larger-looking mark than it would have on cement.
-Once again. please remember that this car is 30 years old and wearing 90% of its original paint.  A few areas have been spot repaired. but in general it has the typical stone chips and a few light scuffs and scratches (nothing deep or too distasteful).  Remember that cars always look better in pictures than they do in person. especially black ones.  I'm not trying to make the car sound bad. because it actually looks really good for its age in my opinion.  I just don't want anyone to expect a show car or something.
-Like all 900s. especially Turbos. the car develops a vacuum leak sporadically that needs traced down.  This is going to be true of 100% of the cars out there but I still wanted to mention it.  The car has been dead reliable for me; this is the only thing that I would say needs attention occasionally. And all it really does is make the idle speed sporadic when you start the car for a few minutes until the computer sort of levels it out.
-Remember that I reserve the right to change or even drop the reserve price as I see fit.  I'm not going to raise it. to be sure. but I may conceivably decide to lower it if I become motivated to ensure it will sell.
-Car also comes with complete tool kit. which I think is pretty neat.
Again. I'm happy to answer any questions or send any photos you may want.  Thanks!

Hey I'm super interested in this car, I had another 900 a couples years back but unfortunately had to sell it, but this one looks great! Where is the car located? I just want to get a sense of how hard it would be to get it back home. I'm definitely willing to meet the asking price! My email is [email protected] and my phone number is 401-533-6069.

Thanks,
-John
