1991 PORSCHE 944 S2 Cabriolet Schwarz Black for sale
Current customer rating: (454 votes ) based onHas a new alpine stereo / hands free and aftermarket central locking fob rather than using the antiquated key in door system. Being serviced on Tuesday next week and all fluids will be changed. The history with car shows all main works have been done in its life more than once . all with Porsche specialists. Charles Ivey receipt for top end overhaul at 74k amongst other bills and all the right invoices for the right jobs at the right time too . so shows it has been well cared for.
Bodywork and interior very good for its age with no obvious rust other than small hole by spare wheel (quoted £120). Has a brand new weather-shield goretex cover (£385) made to order . for the summer on our drive . although early part of year was garaged Nov to March. All front light lenses new and rear are turbo spec red . but have the originals.
This is a third car and my wife feels its too large and powerful for her so sadly all our work to car will be passed on !!
The 944 was Porsche's mid range sports car positioned between the 924 and 911. It uses a rear-wheel drive water cooled 4 cylinder engine mounted at the front of the car. the gearbox is mounted at the rear providing better weight distribution which results in one of the best handling cars to come out of the 80's.
The aim of the car was to provide a luxurious long distance cruiser as well as an exciting powerful road car. Its body was based upon the 924 Carrera GT. like the 924 it has a sloping glass hatchback providing a practical luggage storage area. The sunroof was a popular option as it was a removable metal panel providing a near Targa like open road experience.
The 944 was introduced for sale in 1982 and ran on for 10 years. it came in either a coupe 2+2 body or a very attractive Cabriolet. There were several models made but it's the S2 Cabriolet that is featured here.
The S2's engine capacity was raised to 3-litres making it the largest 4 cylinder engine in the world at the time and it provided an impressive 211bhp and 207lb of torque. It was Porsche's official replacement to the 220bhp Turbo and uses many of that car's chassis components including its stronger trans-axle. drive-shafts. brakes. wheels and tyres. It looks just like a Turbo too - the wrap-around plastic bumper/spoiler smooths its snout. simple and attractive disc alloys fill its flared arches. and the under slung rear wing firms up its tail styling.
When launched it's main competition came from the Audi Quattro and Lotus Esprit Turbo. the S2 out accelerated the Quattro in 0-60 and 1/4 mile sprints and was just a smidgen behind the Esprit but its main trump card was its flexibility; in 4th gear. every 20mph increment from 10-100mph takes less than 7 seconds. No turbocharged car of the time could match this consistency nor deliver the sort of effortless and decisive progress. This smooth power delivery gives the S2 the throttle sensitivity for some predictable and entertaining cornering.

EXTERIORThis example is finished in striking Schwarz Black with brand new OEM mohair convertible hood. The paint has a deep shine to it and looks fantastic . benefiting from the aggressive box style arches giving the car a muscular appearance and only suffering with very minimal stone chipping to the front. Mechanically this example is in great order having been maintained extensively by Porsche main dealers and independent specialists. Regular. and on-time servicing has been carried out. and the car has only done a handful of miles since all jobs the most recent one will be a service and fluid change thats booked for next. As mentioned all the major jobs have been done in last 4 months . the belts and timing etc.
The stance of the car benefits from a great looking set of 17 inch Porsche Twist Cup alloys in fantastic condition showing no curbing at all . wih some sligt marking but not ready for a refyrb. The tyres are showing plenty of tread at front and are new at rear (30 miles)The rear discs would benefit from a change in 2-3k based on my mechanics report and the front pads at same time. All carpets are clean and no obvious tears in interior and the clock works (they normally dont) as do all the instruments / heater etc.
The car comes with two keys and central locking fobs and all the owners books still present. including a service book containing stamps and a thick folder of receipts dating back through the cars history. There is also a comprehensive collection of MOT certificates to verify the mileage. Also have a Peter Morgan piece about this car when for sale a few years back at porshe specialist. The previous owners shows high at 11 due to to a few owners changing the plate for private plates
