Austin A35 a35

This auction is for an Austin A 35 Saloon in Spruce Green with green interior. Being registered before 1960 it is tax and MOT exempt.

The registration number is the origional and transferable. even though it would be a shame to do so.

There is a large history file with receipts. tax discs and MOT certificates back to the 1970's.

Engine: The engine is an 898 cc A series running the single solex carb. tickover and running is smooth. with no signs of smoke or any undue noise. Oil pressure light goes out straight away. The engine has been reconditioned previously (receipts available).

Transmission: All gears change well with no jumping out of gear and final drive is also good. Noisy first and reverse. but one does not need / stay in those gears for long. Synchromesh is a little tired - so I double declutch on up and down changes to be kinder to it.

Brakes:The master cylinder has just been machined and re-sleeved and new seals fitted. A new frame cylinder has been fitted.

Having had this work done. pedal is nice and firm and car stops very well. However next job is to adjust up front brakes and/or change front wheel cylinders. Handbrake works well and holds securely.

Bodywork: The bodywork is sound. without any rot. but understandably patina'd commensurate with age. The floor and sills show previous repairs. but they are solid as is the underneath. The chromework is ok for age. The paintwork does have a few places where spraying and touching up has taken place over the years. and a few places where the paint match is slightly out.

Interior: Clean relatively new (not original) green vinyl upholstery. Seats have had head rests added in past. Front seats have inertia reel seat belts. The headlining has been replaced in it's lifetime. Carpets have been renewed over time as well with aftermarket set - usual signs of wear / use. There is a van type heater fitted which warms the car up very well.

Overall this is a lovely little A 35 which is great fun to own and drive. We bought it for a bit of fun 3 summers ago. but we need the space and do not use it enough to justify keeping. It could be improved further with little effort or expense but still attracts admiring / endearing glances as it is

I have been asked whether car has an MOT (regardless of exemption). No it does not. and I have not had it MOTd in my 3 year ownership. I may get it tested this week to 'see whether it passes' or at least 'what needs to be down' to get it to MOT standard.
