This is something you probably won't see at almost any car show you attend. a 1934 Dodge DS Series Sedan. This car was the flagship of the Dodge lineup in 34 and had virtually every option that you could've found on the Chrysler that year. The DS series had features such as the flow thru rear windows. dual side mounts. deluxe interior with bud vases and rear foot rests and chrome window treatments to name a few. The car also featured dual tail lights and the more powerful (87 hp) version of the 216 ci engine. Now all of these things make for a special car but wrap it up in a mostly original car. owned by the same person since 1969 and you truly have something that nears a once in a lifetime opportunity. I know it will be a car for a great many conversations at the shows as these original cars are. I took all the pictures and spent several hours with the owner because seeing this car was a treat for me. I also was blessed with the opportunity to drive the car. we went about 10 miles up and down the rolling hills of the central CA foothills and it performed better than I could have anticipated. it handled 50 miles an hour easily and didn't feel like an 80 year old car at all. There have been quite a few trophies collected over the years and it doesn't leave any show empty handed.

The body on the car was inspected and I can see no indication of any replacements. There are some blemishes in the paint and it did appear to have some touch up on the doors that blended into the rear panels. it was done prior to the current owner so he is unaware but was visible during my inspection. I will say they could have done a little better on the prep work but they didn't take it down thru the original paint. There is some checking in a few areas but we're talking about 80 year old original paint this car is still wearing with 66 K miles of driving rather than sitting in a museum. The is a small ding in the left rear fender and a chip on the rear door from an item falling against it in an earthquake in Chatsworth. CA many years ago. There are sever other chips but it lends to the original patina the car has. The glass is all in excellent shape. the windows all function as designed and have the original beveled glass in the doors. The top insert is great and was replaced in 1971 by the current owner. You won't find any rust issues. not sure if the car was sold new in CA but it's very clean throughout.

The exterior has the dual side mount spares. correct original locking spare tire caps and signature DB covers. It has the correct exterior side mount mirrors. the correct dual tone horns and the dual script tail lights. The bumpers have the guards and it has the accessory exhaust deflector. front parking lights and fender finder light posts up front. The tires are great. the side mounts are black wall so it would keep from standing out in the appearance.

The interior is beautiful. from the carpet to the original mohair headliner it is near perfect. The interior was replaced in 1971 by an upholstery shop that still had the original materials and knowledge as to the proper stitching and design. The rear grab handles and front seat mounted grip rope are the original braided design. and the carpet is the correct loop with cloth trimming. The trim panels are showing some wear in the wood grain pattern in the normal areas that get touched on them. The original bud vases are intact in their holder in the rear and this car has the optional candy dish mounted on the pillar between the doors on the right side. And it has the very rare and working Ingrahm post clock.

The gauges are clear and all function great. just over 40 psi oil pressure and 15 amps showing on the gauge when going down the road. The gas gauge does work but is somewhat inaccurate. probably needs to have the contacts cleaned on the sender. The speedometer shows 66. 24 miles and it click off miles and showed speeds up to 50 mph on our drive. The temp was right at 165 going down the road and warmed up to 180 while idling. it was about 90 degrees at the time. The horn works well and it has the correct button in the steering wheel. The wipers don't turn on. I suspect it's a vacuum line since the optional vacuum fan on the steering column didn't spin either.

The engine ran great. it started effortlessly and has been well maintained with proper non detergent 30 W oil and lead additive in the fuel. The radiator was serviced a couple of years ago. the generator was rebuilt and a rebuilt master cylinder installed around the same time. The muffler was new this year. This car had an overdrive unit that was given to him when he bought the car. it was described as rebuilt but he never saw the need to have it put on so it remains in a box behind the rear seat. The crank is also located in the back if you ever want to show off or the starter fails.

I think I've covered everything. such a fun car to help find a new home for but I'm sure I may have forgot something. I have another 50 pictures of many details not covered in the auction pictures so send me your email address if you want to see her in more detail.
