1976 Cadillac Eldorado

You are bidding on a 1976 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible in the very rare color of Amberlite Firemist. Adding to the rarity is the fuel injected engine. Of the 49. 84 Cadillac Eldorado's made in 1976. only 1. 00 were optioned with the fuel injected engine. Only 14. 00 converts were made this year.

Of course. all Eldorado's were front wheel drive. which gives this vehicular behemoth a reasonably taut handling characteristic. It's no Porsche. by any measure. but when you have xx litter engine sitting directly on top of the driving front wheels. the car enjoys a few notable features. As she pulls her heft through corners rather than pushing them. The difference in handling between and 1976 Lincoln and a 1976 Eldorado is considerable. Further. the Eldorado is actually good in rain and snow (with the proper tires). Finally. as the Eldorado is truly front wheel drive there is no transmission hump running the center length of the interior. The front floor is flat allowing three abreast seating to be accomplished comfortably.

Now. I am not saying that an Eldorado is a sporting ride. It's not. But. the pure size of the car requires you to drive slowly so that admiring pedestrians can take in the cars width and length.

Billed as the last American convertible to be manufactured (due to government safety regulations) the public went wild purchasing them. Each. it seems. collected to assure future collectability. So. are 76 Eldo converts rare today – not really. unless they are the fuel injection optioned cars. Like the one you are bidding on.

I love the color of the car. Amberlite Firemist. With the tan interior. she is impressively pretty.

Let's also recall that. in 1976. this was THE ride for wealthy Americans. However. with so little foreign competition. the build quality was awful. The usual factory panel gaps were wide – and we accepted that – then. Yet. the car had an appeal that was undeniable. In 1977 the push was on. with American Automobile Manufacturers. to reduce the size of the luxury car – dramatically. Cadillac held on. with the Eldorado. for two more years. but only in hardtop form. The convertible was dead.

At least for a few years.

My 1976 Eldorado is not a trailer queen nor a show car. It may look good in photos but the previous owner attempted an amateur restoration. To his credit. the seats are in excellent. show like condition. The carpet was also replaced. I believe. The paint is good. but not show. However. she runs well – and I see no reason not to believe the mileage. but I cannot guarantee it.

The car has more to go to be fully show ready. However. as a driver. she'd be a lot of fun. Just what the family needs on a sunny day – especially if you have a wife and four children. They'll all fit comfortably. You can finish it as you go – enjoying it's 10 mpg combined mileage rating.

Here is the low-down:

Tires are old – need to be replaced.

Hubcaps are there. could be repainted.

The fiberglass parade boot is there. fits well and is very nice.

One of the windows does not go down – no idea why. could be a switch (usually is)

The transmission shifts fine

The brakes work well

The convertible top is tan and in great condition – looks to be new

The A/C needs to be recharged. but I believe that the compressor is fine

There is a full sized spare in the trunk. as well as. the original jack (which I would never use to hoist a 5000lb car in the air)

All Eldorado's had cruise control. power seats. power windows. power brakes and steering and electric trunk opener. She also has tilt steering.

There is no discernable rust on the car. There is a few small bubbles in the paint however. but that might be from poor paint prep.

The electric convertible top works fine

The chrome. bumpers and grill are in great shape

She appears to need two front headlights

The radio works I believe – and there is an electric clock inset in the dash cover.

Also. there is a box of spare parts in the trunk. I've spent no time determining what they are.

1976 would be the last year for the Eldorado Convertible (until 1984). as well as the Calais series cars. The 8. 2 Litre. 500 cubic inch engine which had been standard on the Eldorado since 1970. would also be retired after 1976.

Methods of Payment .

Certified check. Bank to Bank wire transfers. or 3rd-party financing. All funds must be in US dollars only. Deposit Due .

The successful high bidder will submit a $500 NON-REFUNDABLE Deposit due immediately following the close of the auction. This $500 deposit is good towards the purchase of the vehicle and will be deducted from the total amount of the purchase. We accept PAYPAL only for the initial deposit only. If the vehicle cannot be picked up or paid for completely within 7-days from the close of auction. Deposits and fees are NON-REFUNDABLE if the vehicle is not paid for.

Balance of Payment Due .

The buyer agrees to pay remaining balance due (plus applicable fees and taxes) within 7 days of the close of the auction. All financial transactions must be completed before delivery of the vehicle.

I have a clear title in hand and ready for delivery. If payment is made other than wire transfer (ie: certified check). I will hold the title for 5-10 business days or until ALL funds have cleared. Please call if you have any questions regarding our titling policy.

Buyer Inspections .

Every effort has been made to accurately and fairly describe this vehicle to you. I have tried to disclose all information known about this vehicle for you to make an informed decision. I have posted many pictures. especially those that show flaws. Please be advised that used vehicles will have typical scratches and dings inherent for their year and mechanical parts are subject to fail. I welcome and recommends a buyer's inspection. If you plan to have a buyers inspection. please make sure you inspect the vehicle prior to the auction ending. Buyer is responsible for any inspection charges and fees. Buyers Inspections MUST be completed prior to 24 hours before the end of auction.

This car is NOT brand new. It is personally owned by me. Please expect a certain amount of wear. use. and flaws. as is standard on ANY pre-owned vehicle that has been driven. All pre-owned vehicles including this one may have dings. nicks. chips. scratches and any other marks that are associated with use consistent with age and mileage of the vehicle. Any known obvious defects that are not normal wear and tear will be noted in the listing.
