Typifying the growing economic confidence of the mid 1950 s. the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud was larger. faster and more boldly styled than its Silver Dawn predecessor. Introduced in 1955. there was nothing average about its 'Standard Steel Saloon' bodywork. A masterclass in formal elegance. it was underpinned by a new cruciform-braced box-section chassis equipped with independent coil-sprung front suspension. a 'live' rear axle and servo-assisted four-wheel drum brakes.
a twin SU carburettor fed 4887 cc straight-six engine allied to standard-fit four-speed automatic transmission. the Cloud could waft along at over 100 mph. Once affectionately described as "a veritable country club on wheels". the model certainly boasted an inviting cabin. Trimmed with the finest hides. carpets and wood veneers. it promised relaxation and contentment.
Our car is finished in White with Grey leather interior and is in a scruffy condition. The white paintwork has many imperfections and arrears or paint spider webbing and bubbling through. The interior is also very worn but the car drives well and is suitable for restoration or daily use and improve. The car is only showing 2 owners from new on the V 5 and comes from long term ownership.
It has a new MOT and is ready for its new home. Silver Clouds do not come much cheaper than this. especially in driving condition.
