Volkswagen Golf MK1 GTi in Mars Red with MK2 Golf GTi 16 Valve Engine Conversion - Including 5-Speed Gearbox
We purchased this car back in February this year. following a break of nearly 11 years off the road. In this time. the previous owner showered it with only the very best up-grades. The car features the following:-
MK2 GTi 16 Valve Engine ConversionMK2 GTi 5-Speed GearboxCompetition Clutch - A little stiff until you get used to itH&R Adjustable Coil Overs - all round. It can go lower than it currently is. or even be returned to stock height. Poly-bushed all roundNew Brake LinesVented Drilled Discs up frontNew Gear LinkageStainless Steel Exhaust - Which sounds awesomeNew Steering RackNew Track Rod EndsNew Water PumpNew Front Wheel BearingsNew Alternator - GermanNew Starter Motor - GermanNew CambletNew Battery - Over Spec. for max crankNew Parcel Shelf & Boot Lining
In addition. the Head Gasket has just been done. We also replaced the front (correct for GTi) and rear valences. along with the O/S front wing.  The rest car was painted around 13 years ago and has held-up pretty well. We gave it a machine polish to bring back the colour fully. The interior is all original MK1 GTi and apart from a couple of marks on the driver's seat and a couple of cigarette burns in the rear (you can see these in the photos). the interior looks great.
This MK1 Golf started it's life as a 1300 Driver and is still listed as this on the logbook. The new owner can either up-date the information with the DVLA. or insure this car at a very reasonable rate.
We are aware that the Golf looks excellent in the photos. but there are a few things that still need a little attention and we don't want someone to turn-up thinking they are going to a see a pristine. concours car:-The headlining needs attention above the rear hatch - the rest of it is superbThere are a few minor dents here and there - I am guessing that 11 years in a garage that thinks were placed on it and against it. All can be done by a Dent Master-type service. The paint is flaking a little around the gutters in some places - you will only see this if you look for it. The engine needs a person with MK2 experience to set it up properly. Don't get me wrong - it runs fine and pulls like a train. but I do think it could be better (our experience is with Air-cooled VWs)The plastic Door Cap/Covers are past their best. but can be easily replaced - The dashboard is excellentThe front splitter/spoiler is damaged due to the car being quite low. It is missing a Cill tim on one side and the other isn't great. The Golf has almost new tyres and comes with just under 11 months MOT - the last MOT had no advisories. Moving down the road. this car feels totally planted and very strong. There are no rattles and bangs at all. which is unusual for a car of this age. The Golf comes with FULL Service History. including the original dealer service manuals and stamps.
I wish we could keep this car. but with a Wedding and Honeymoon to pay for. nbsp;unfortunately it has to go.
The car will be Sold as Seen - with no warranty given or implied.
