All Mini Cooper Monte Carlo models came with tinted windows. four fog lights mounted in front of the grille and a copious amount of chrome trim. The two-tone motif continued on the inside with seats and door panels upholstered in a combination of red and cream.
The steering wheel and the shift knob were upholstered in red leather.
A “Monte Carlo” emblem affixed to the center of the steering wheel added a finishing touch to the race-bred look.
This Mini Cooper special edition Monte Carlo has had a comprehensive restoration including the replacement of a number of body panels including
front wings. front panel. bonnet. scuttle panel. a panels. door skins and boot. The car
received
a full bare metal
respray. a s well as the
replacement
of front sub frame (heritage) and heavy duty adjustable front suspension arms being replaced. new grooved and drilled front discs and tuff pads. ball joints. track rod arms. mini fin rear drums. pads and cylinders. spax adjustable Paddy Hopkirk shock absorbers and hi-lo to the rear.
The interior has been reconditioned with new door cards. carpet and mats.
The engine was fully rebuilt at 93500 miles by Jonspeed with the following specification (see pictures):
A+ block bored +. 020. fitted with new core plugs and oil gallery plugs
AE 21253 pistons fitted to A+ balanced rods
Crank reground and polished. Vandervell bearings used - Mains (VP 91886). Big ends (VP 91306). 1275 thrust washer set STD (AEW 2136) and balanced with flywheel and clutch assy.
Centre main strap used.
Camshaft ( 274 i Kent)
with new cam bearings (AEC 3063) and cam followers (C-CF 100 ISK) fitted with duplex timing gear kit(C-AJJ 3323) and steel faced slot drive oil pump (AOP 1107)
SPI clutch with solid centre clutch plate
1275 12 G 940 casting Stage 3 ported and polished cylinder head fitted with 36 mm inlet valves and 31 mm exhaust valves. New VS 6005 hardened lead free inserts. fitted to all exhaust seats. new valve guides (VAG 90959) and oil seals and new 240 lbs double valve springs running standard sintered type rocker assembly and 1275 push rods.
Head is faced top and bottom for optimised compression ratio.
Fully reconditioned A+ gearbox using new baulk rings (22 G 2033 MS). new double roller bearing (AAU 1365). single roller bearing (AAU 8424) and central oil pickup pipe (C-AHT 54).
Differential rebuilt with new comp diff pin (C-BTA 166). new planet gears (DAM 6624). new bronze mica thrust washers (DAM 5071) and new fibre thrust washers (BTA 101).
Differential bearings used – (AHU 1856). differential fitted with crown wheel and pinion of your choice.
Compression ratio – 10. 5:1
The bodywork was originally 1 of the 60 cars to be constructed in black (see pic) and with now old english white with a black roof and additional chrome pack the car looks well.
A joy to drive but equally an investment that will only continue to grow.
