1973 VW T2 Campervan TAX EXEMPT

With huge regret and sadness. we have decided to sell Mavis. our 1973 VW T2 1. 6 Baywindow campervan. We are only selling as we are emigrating. otherwise we wouldn't even consider letting her go.

We have owned her for 2 years and in that time we have taken her from what was more or less a running empty shell. into a very useable campervan. which is ready to go to be used for the new camping season.

I intend to be completely honest in my description of the van. as although there are many really good points. there are one or two things which will require work which is reflected in the price.

Mavis has been used as a family campervan for the last 2 years we have owned her. We have been on many enjoyable trips and I would love her to carry on being used for another family to enjoy similar times.

She is what I would call a good. honest and solid van. without any issues of serious rot. There are however. a very small amount of surface rust spots here and there but in no way is she a rust bucket. All of the underside is in good condition. including the jacking points and outriggers.

I had intended to have a heating system such as Propex/Eberspacher fitted. but I have not managed to get round to this. so this would be a job the new owner would certainly benefit from carrying out.

The reason Mavis is for sale. is that we are emigrating. and if that was not the case and we were keeping her. we would be using her whilst saving to have a professional body and paint job to be carried out. In my opinion. this would take her from being a really nice. useable van. to something that would look quite special inside and out. Please note that she'll never be a show winning van. simply something that will give trip after trip of fun and enjoyment.

GOOD POINTS

Very reliable 1. 6 twinport engine with professionally installed twin Weber ICT carubrettors. which give a much needed boost in performance. The carbs were installed by a VW specialist.

SSP alloy wheels purchased from VW Heritage. in mint condition with “as new” tyres (spare steel wheel).

Lowered 1 spline at the rear. and lowered at the front using a fully adjustable bracket. This was carried out by a local VW specialist.

¾ width “rock n roll” bed. purchased from Bluebird Customs (sleeps 2 adults comfortably).

Professionally re-upholstered seats and bed cushions.

Fully installed kitchen units with blue LED plinth lights.

240V hook up with socket mounted on front of rock n roll bed base.

CD MP3 head unit.

Polished wood steering wheel.

BAD POINTS

Slight surface rust around front wheel arch and various other parts. however. no issues of serious rot

Would benefit from professional paint job.

Would benefit from auxilliary heating system such as Eberspacher/Propex etc.

To sum up. as I said above. this is a nice campervan in good. honest condition. If a relatively small amount of money was to be spent on a new paint job and heating system. it would be transformed into something pretty special.
