The 1961 Dodge Polara is Extremely

Rare and according to available data

only 1862 were produced.

In comparison its direct competitor the 1961 Chevrolet Impala 2 door hardtops was produced 177. 69 times. nonetheless it too is now considered a rare car in its own right .

The 1961 POLARA is almost impossible to find in any condition.

Very few Survivors remain!

1961 Full-Size Dodges are now almost extinct.

When restored to their original state. they are truly a unique form of automotive art and command attention in any crowd!

The Polara is based on a 122" wheelbase and was part of the senior models for 1961.

In Australia we only received the 4 door Phoenix Dart models.

The car was acquired several years ago in USA and remains in as found condition. Basically what you see is what you get. What you get of course -- is one of the most artistic and rarest automobiles ever produced in the USA

Contemporary road tests highlight Dodge as having superior handling compared to other American cars thanks to the " torsion bar

front suspension " and the monocoque body which was noted for being " rattle free ”.

The 1961 Dodge Polara is a rare vehicle in the USA and even more so in Australia.

Richard Carpenter from the singing duo the "Carpenters" is a well known car collecter in Southern California and he has a 1960 model of the Dodge Polara 2 door hardtop in his museum collection which includes many notable classics including Ferraris. He states the following on his web site: “

The 1961 Dodge Polara Hardtop however is much rarer than the 1960 version which is rare in its own right.

The Polara styled under the guidance of Virgil Exner is the last of the “Forward Look “designs which incorporated

futuristic styling. jet inspired fins and powerful engines.

The styling of the 1961 Polara was controversial when new - undoubtedly inspired by the American space program

the design is pure Science Fiction.

So radical and futuristic is the Polara that most consumers in 1961 were just too conservative to be driving a space ship on American roads - hence production remained low and far fewer survivors remain.

A fantastic collector attribute 50 years on!

The fact the Polara is a pure automotive art form inspired by the American space age – a car that George Jetson would have been proud to motor into space . is now the very reason collectors are inspired by the 1961 Polara.

ored original example and a relatively easy restorer.

Whilst there is some rust here and there it is relatively minor for a 1961 Dodge. Most of the rust on the car is surface rust. There is a comparatively small amount of rust for a vehicle of this year and model. I have a number of additional photos I can forward to anyone with a genuine interest in the car. that show the small areas of rust in the car.

Some rust is localised in typical areas for this era Dodge such as the

quarter sills. lower rear quarters. lower front fenders etc. The trunk floor is solid with mainly surface rust. The main floors still have the original paint in most areas but there is surface rust and like the trunk floor. if there is any rust through it will be relatively minor and isolated.

This super rare POLARA does not have the extent of rust which is typically found on this model Dodge which makes it a relatively easy restorer.

The engine and drivetrain look original to the car and undisturbed. I have not attempted to start the engine. The brakes are in operative due to long term storage.

I have had a long term association with this model Dodge and I am unaware of any recent auction sales however the most recent publicised USA auction sales of the earlier 1960 Dodge Matador / Polara 2 door hardtop include a restored example in blue which sold for $85. 00 USD and an example with an amateur restoration with apparent poor panel fit and sub-standard body work was recorded to have sold for $56. 00 USD.

A restored 1960 Dodge Polara which is not as rare as the 61 model was recently advertised in the USA for $99. 00 USD - which translates to an estimated $180. 00 AUD to import at present with shipping and taxes.
