Introduced early in 1971. this impressive two-seater sports car
replaced the 280SL; the body and chassis of the third generation
Mercedes-Benz SL considerably heavier and longer than its
predecessor. but still showing a resemblance to them. The
3. 5-Litre. V8 engine underwent slight modifications to those being
used on other models and the gear shift lever was placed on the
floor in the centre of the car. The standard transmission provided
a top speed of 130mph and a very respectable 0-62mph in 8. 8
seconds. As with the previous generation SLs. the vehicle came as
an open roadster with removable hard top and went on to become one
of the longest running styles from Mercedes-Benz. A range of engine
size were available. one of the more powerful was the 4. 5-Litre
unit.
This Mercedes-Benz has just been repainted and restored by a
Mercedes-Benz approved bodyshop and we are pleased to report the
car has been completed to a very high standard. Not in terrible
condition to start with. the fastidious nature of the bodyshop
owner resulted in him putting two new front wings on the car and
fabricating any other areas of corrosion. Mechanically. 107
Mercedes are generally very strong and this car is no exception.
Supplied with a V5C registration document. a 12 month MoT test
certificate and a good degree of service history/invoices together
with a hardtop; prices on these roadsters have increased
dramatically in recent times. particularly for good examples such
as this.
