History of this car

Our tipo 105. 93 was supplied new in Italy and first registered on 31. 07. 1970 in Bergamo as a 1. 3 Junior Zagato.

Our Junior Z is one of only 1100 made and was we believe originally metallic grey. The car was kept by the original owner for many years before being bought by the Rome based gentleman we bought the car from. who commissioned his own unique haute couture take on this non conformist Zagato design.

This included painting the car in a bottle green metallic (which is quite close to the 164 I used to have) and retrimming the seats. door cards and headlining in a gorgeous green suede. and debumpering the coupe. The icing on the cake is fitting the Zagato with a rebuilt 2 litre engine with open trumpets. an idea very much in keeping with Alfa Romeo's production plans in the late 1960s to feature a new model with genuinely sports characteristics.

Mileage recorded is 81000 klms (or 50. 00 miles) which whilst not guaranteed seems quite believable given the overall condition of this Alfa.

We imported the Zagato here recently. sourcing it for its exceptional rust free condition and unique specification.

Body

These 1. 3 cars are based on the Spider junior chassis and the bodies were made and painted at the Zagato factory of Terrazzano di Rho. There's no getting away from the fact the Junior Z is a rust prone motor car but our example has benefitted from the dry climate of Italy and the body on this Zagato is rock solid.

All panels open and shut easily including the rear hatch which opens electrically for ventilation on the move; panel gaps are even and good for one of these cars.

The paintwork is older with some imperfections (the odd scrape and chip here and there) but we will rectify these paint defects within the asking price.

The chassis is in perfect. undamaged and unrestored condition.

The vertical asymmetric perspex grille. a trademark of the Junior Z. is in excellent condition complete with its Zagato branding.

The glass is all very good.

The Campagnolo light alloy road wheels look fabulous and wear their original silver finish. These are rare and expensive period wheels. and whilst not original to the car. they look superb.

Mechanics

Our car is in great mechanical shape and boasts the 2 litre engine. It is really quite fast – certainly much more so than the standard engined Junior Z. and the combination of the grunt of the bigger engine. lighter weight and the aerodynamic shape makes it amongst the quickest 105 series Alfas. Even better is the noise: on open trumpets the Zagato sounds fantastic and makes an addictive noise.

The transmission is 100% with none of the usual 2nd or reverse gear issues these cars often suffer from.

Tyres are recent Pirellis all round with plenty of tread and the exhaust and battery are fresh.

New MOT.

Interior

This suede lined cocoon of a cabin is quite hedonistic. Acres of suede embrace you and the seats (unique to the Junior Z) are beautifully trimmed in this soft material.

Headlining. carpets and dashboard are in very good condition. and this car has obviously been cared for.

A leather rimmed Luisi sports steering wheel is fitted.

Boot

Excellent condition. the jack and spare wheel are all in place.

Summary

Not a car for the purist perhaps. but if the idea of a unique and fast Zagato appeals. this is your car.

It's so cool and such good fun to drive I've got my eye on it. so don't wait!
