VW Camper Van Type 2 T2 1972 1.6 RHD Red MOTed to May 2014

A beautiful 1972 T2 bay window camper – sadly selling as we need to get a boring old car instead. We haven't been able to use as much as we thought with a young baby.   

The van is structurally sound. The underside of the van is in excellent condition. There is some rust on the main body of the van which is normal for a British van. Engine starts well. even on cold days – the starter motor was replaced in 2012.

The underside has had some welding over the years including recent work on the wheel arches and safety belt points. The heating works. All the pipes and hoses are connected and working well.

The roof pops up over the main body of the van allowing for light and more head space. Watertight. and has a small skylight. The original hammocks are in good condition and sleep 2 in the roof.

The interior of the van is in excellent condition – the seats in the rear have been recovered with a lovely hard wearing but comfortable blue cotton duck fabric – 1 rear-facing seat and full-width rock and roll bed that seats 3 with seatbelts. and all have storage underneath. Camping equipment including a stove are in a removable cupboard behind the passenger seat. which means you can store it outside when camping. and cook outside too if the weather is nice – good to keep smells outside where possible! There is no fridge but there is power in the back of the van if you wanted to get a fridge or powered coolbox (available for about £50 on Just Kampers). Good quality lino floor. and there is a removable table (stored behind the buddy seat) and a hole in the floor for the leg.

In the front cabin original seats have been reupholstered and fitted. along with new seatbelts. and a beautiful new wooden steering wheel (fitted in the last 2 years). Interior lights all work well. Curtains are fitted with rails that go all around the interior – so the front seats become part of the living space (unlike many older campervans).

The dashboard is completely uncut and original. The glovebox also is the original box. with original hinged door. Brand new radio with USB and aux inputs (so you can listen to ipods etc) fits into the original space on the dash. and is wired into speakers in the front doors and in the back (under the forward facing bench seat).

New brakes fitted 2013 – completely reworked with new plates. calipers etc. Handbrake cable adjusted.

Current mileage is 75. 00 kilometres.

The van has been fitted with 2 leisure batteries so you have power when camping – and no need to plug into the mains. There is a conventional UK socket. as well as a lighter socket in the back. and two lighter sockets in the front dash.

Tax runs to March 2014 (but is free anyway!) and MOT runs to May 2014. All documents are available.

Spare key and documents available. and receipts for parts fitted in past 16 months while we've owned it. It also comes with a drive-away awning (untested). camping chairs. plastic dinner sets. cutlery etc.
