Drive approximately 180 miles south west of Phoenix AZ and you will run into the city of Tucson. Sitting in the Sonoran Dessert the climate is incredibly dry. it's a great place to buy cars of older persuasion as the lack of humidity prevents the conversion of mild steel into ferrous oxide.
So you will have gathered that this bus has been well preserved. and indeed that is the case and it's 68. 00 recorded miles simply add further to the interest we had in acquiring it.
Once back in the UK we gave the very original and solid but sun beaten bus to a local VW specialist restorer with instructions to make it into a stylish and reliable camper. and this is the result of his labours.
The body has been entirely repainted. the underside treated to a corrosion protection. the brakes and steering checked and restored as necessary. a major service has been carried out. a new exhaust fitted. The entire interior has been retrimmed. a new pop-up fibre glass top with gas struts mean that the 2 upper berths can be accessed quickly leaving the two remaining berths clear.
Should sinks and further up grades be required this can be designed in conjunction with the new owner and supplied at extra cost. Europe or the Lake district here we come!
