Unquestionably the prettiest and most desirable of the 105-Series Spiders. the boat tail Duetto is by far the rarest. As a UK-supplied original right-hand drive. this very early Duetto is extremely rare indeed.
The Spider concept first saw the light of day at the 1961 Turin Motor Show as the Pininfarina designed Spider Speciale Aerodynamica but the design did not become a reality until 1966 when this example was made and first registered in the UK on 19 th July 1967. The car retains its original 1570 cc engine (matching numbers) and its original and attractively short registration number.
With the car comes an excellent history file with receipts going back to the eighties. It shows that in recent years this Alfa has had a great deal invested into it – around £19 k in the last five years. This has included an interior retrim in leather. a new mohair hood. a gearbox. cylinder head and carburettor rebuild. new clutch. ignition components and an engine-out repaint of the engine bay to name but a few of the works carried out.
The Alfa Rosso paintwork is in lovely order with excellent panel fit and the interior is superb. The twin cam engine starts on the button and displays excellent oil pressure while the gearbox is slick and precise.
In comparison with other roadsters of the 60 s the Alfa feels extremely advanced with a potent twin cam engine. five-speed transmission and disc brakes all round. Lively performance and. as you'd expect. it's fabulous fun to drive in a spirited manner.
A great opportunity for the Alfa collector. It's thought that only around 380 Duettos were ever produced in right hand drive. ensuring that these iconic and exceptionally pretty sports cars rarely become available to purchase.
