1953 Bentley R Type Manual Saloon for sale

1953 Bentley R Type Saloon
Chassis number: B 349 SP
Registration number: 335 XUD
Accompanying copy chassis cards record that this manual transmission Bentley R-Type was supplied new via Rippon Bros. of Huddersfield to its first owner. S Wilkinson & Son Ltd. of Elland. Huddersfield. with the second owner acquiring the car on 7 th July 1958. In 1968 the vehicle was placed in long term storage. subsequently passing into the ownership of the Sharpe family before the current owner purchased the car.
The Previous owner an enthusiastic collector of the marque - decided to undertake a long-term refurbishment. The latter included a bare metal re-spray in midnight blue of the corrosion free coachwork re-plating of all chromework and removal of the engine. which was dismantled. thoroughly cleaned and checked for wear. None was found. As a precaution. a new clutch and a full stainless steel exhaust system was fitted and all other service parts checked and replaced wherever necessary. The tyres were renewed also. In addition. the carpets and head lining have been replaced and seat belts installed. The interior trim. seating and door panels are original and remain in generally very good condition. as is the wood veneer.
The odometer reading of 32. 21 is believed to be correct whilst unverified. Given the long lay up & the superb taut manner in which the car drives it is entirely possible that this is correct.
The car on the road drives beautifully with smooth silent power & tight steering allied to an undulating ride. It has a wonderfully original feel to the interior which is a very pleasant place to be. Occasional tables are found in the seat backs. The car has a factory sun roof fitted from new. The underside of the car is absolutely superb with none of the corrosion found in so many examples. It has been well cared for & always garaged resulting in the excellent order we find it in today.
