Introduced in early 1971. this impressive. two-seater sports car
replaced the 280 SL. The body and chassis of this third generation
SL was considerably heavier and longer than its predecessor. but
still showed a resemblance to them. The 3. 5-Litre. V 8 engine
underwent slight modifications to those being used on other models
and the gear shift lever was placed on the floor in the centre of
the car. The standard transmission provided a top speed of 130 mph
and a very respectable 0-62 mph in 8. 8 seconds. As with the previous
generation SLs. the vehicle came as an open roadster with removable
hard top and went on to become one of the longest running styles
from Mercedes-Benz.

Offered in Sky-Blue metallic with cream leather interior. this
450 SL has been garaged for a number of years before being recently
re-commissioned for the road. Offered with a valid Mo T test
certificate until October 2015 and the added hard top. this example
would ideally benefit from some cosmetic TLC but. otherwise. is in
respectable order throughout. This V 8 roadster could represent
either very cheap classic car motoring or a very reasonable
starting base for a fully restored example.
