vehicle description

Seven Hills Motorcars is proud to offer this 1979 Survivor Formula which is in very original condition and priced to sell. This Formula was bought brand new by the family we purchased the car from and remained in that family for 35 years until we acquired the car recently acceding to the previous owner. This numbers matching Formula is very stock. correct. and is in wonderful driver condition. It has had one repaint in the factory correct color of Platinum Silver. The original factory build sheet and original owners manual still with the car today. This Formula is very solid. has nice body panel fit. and great lines. It looks great. runs awesome. and is fun to drive. This is an excellent opportunity to own a classic Firebird Formula that is ready to be used and enjoyed at an unbeatable value. One could easily buy this car now and sell it for more than the purchase price in years to come. This Formula is finished in the beautiful and desirable color combination of Platinum Silver over Black standard vinyl interior. This is the correct and original color scheme as verified by the trim tag and build sheet. both pictured below. Please peruse all of the photos. video. and information below to get a true sense of how clean and original this Formula really is.

Please note that this Trans Am is "numbers matching" meaning the engine is original to the car. The last six digits of the VIN. 111267. are stamped on the engine block and pictured below indicating that this is the original engine that was installed in the car brand new at the factory.

As a side note. this Formula is not a dealer auction vehicle.   We hand pick each car after careful inspection.   Our classics come from owners who expect their cars to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did.   We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected.   Please take the time to scrutinize each picture.   We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase.   If you have a question about the Pontiac. just give us a call.

  model description

A new styling treatment to the front end was the most striking change for the 1979 Trans Am. laying back the nose at a 22-degree angle from the "Batmobile's" 16-degree angle for better aerodynamics. The Trans Am became a "bottom breather". picking up some fresh air for cooling at the bumper grilles. the remaining amount from underneath the front bumper. The traditional grille between the headlamps was gone. replaced by a pair mounted in the bumper pad extensions. The grilles were in a matte black and contained the turn signal/park lamp lenses in the upper outer corners. The now common four rectangular headlamps were each set in deep recesses. surrounded by low gloss bezels. The Pontiac crest continued to reside in the center of the front fascia.

In addition to the styling change. a bright spot to the front end restyle was a deeper front spoiler. now made of a flexible material rather than the hard plastic of the '77-78's. The change in material made it a bit more friendly to curb stones and parking lot dips. The spoiler actually was responsible for a major portion of the cooling air which was channeled to the radiator. Larger wheel air deflectors (or spats) were fitted. blending with the new spoiler.

The most drastic and best looking change to the rear had to be the tail lamp assemblies. The lamps now stretched corner to corner. with a hinged fuel filler door in the center. While this may seem enough of a change. the big news was that the tail lamps had a "blacked out" look; at least until the lights were activated. then the red was proudly broadcast. For 1979. this was major cool!

condition

Exterior

The Platinum Silver exterior is in nice condition. As one can see in the photos. the paint has a excellent gloss. deep shine. and smooth finish. This Formula has been treated to one repaint in its life in the factory correct color of Platinum Silver Poly with new graphics applied at the time. The paint was finished years ago but still looks good on the car and the body itself exhibits very good and better than average body panel fit. Both door open and shut nicely. Often Formula's will have particularly chipped up front ends; this car does not and both bumpers are in nice condition with no fading. There are no major imperfections that have been intentionally excluded from the photos. We have include specific photos below of the lower quarters. rockers. spring perches. and areas most prone to rust to give any perspective buyer the most accurate representation of the car and show how good it is. There are some small blemishes around the car and light orange peel that were too faint to show up in photos. but nothing that is really noticeable from about five feet away. The original rally II wheels are in nice unrestored condition and the trim rings still shine nicely. The BF Goodrich tires are not cracked or dry rotten. have about 90% tread left. and are sized 225/70/15. The original rally II wheels are in nice condition with no curb rash. The trunk is very clean and solid and nicely detailed with a new correct trunk mat. as one can see in the photos it is even quite clean under the mat. As one can see in the many photos of the underside of the car it is very solid.

This Trans Am has a stamping on the radiator core support. which is pictured below. The core support appears to show a "8 24 78" stamp. or August 24. 1978. This stamping would be correct and original as it precedes the car's build date of the second week of October. 1978 (10B). As one can imagine. if this Trans Am had ever sustained even a minor front end collision this part would have been repaired or replaced. The original stamping is great to see in tact.

Window Date Codes

All Windows: AJ - The "A" denotes September and "J" 1978 so all of the windows on the car are original and correct. made in September of 1978.

Please note that ALL of the glass on this car happens to be dated the same. "AJ. quot; and it all is is original and correct as all pieces predate the car's body build date of the second week of October 1978 (10B). Original glass is a great indication that this car has no major accident history.

The Trans Am looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Interior

The Black standard original interior of this Formula looks splendid. The original seats are in amazing condition with no split seams. holes. or signs of excessive wear at all. Please note that these appear to be the original seats. not some cheap aftermarket covers or replacements. The carpet also appears to be original and also looks good with no major stains. rips. or holes. The original dash pad is in remarkable condition with no cracks. fading. warping. or sun damage. The original door panels look great with no cracks or splits. and both door pulls are solid and in tact. The headliner is in great shape with no holes or stains and is not sagging at all. The package tray looks good for being original. but does show a little wear in the back left corner. All interior plastics and in good factory condition. are not chalky or brittle. and have good color and finish. All interior lights and gauges work as they should with the obvious exception of the clock. The original am/fm stereo works well. gets good reception. and most importantly the dash has not been cut or altered in any way. This car has not been smoked in; there are no burn marks and no aroma of cigarettes what so ever. Firebird interiors are not known to wear well and the excellent condition of this original interior is a testament to the care and attention this car has received throughout its life by its one owner family.

The interior looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.

Mechanical

This Formula appears to be in very good mechanical condition and all of the accessories work. In the video below one can see the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph. braking to stoplight. accelerating away. and going through some curves. Please note that it shifts properly. there are no strange vibrations. and the car performs quite well overall. The car is an exceptional driver that feels great on the road and at highway speeds. There is no smoke when starting or driving the car. It starts right away every time. idles well. and runs great. The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other. Very importantly the original engine resides to this day under the hood. please look at the close up picture below of the correct VIN stamp on the engine block. This drive line is virtually unmolested and looks factory fresh including the exhaust on the car which still retains the factory catalytic converter and the transverse style muffler with single exit pipe. Also. the engine is very clean and nicely detailed as one can see from the photos. This is a factory non AC car which really opens the engine bay area up and lends to that classic muscle car look. The horn works as do all the interior and exterior lights. wipers. blower for the heater. and even the trunk lamp works. The speedometer. tachometer. odometer. oil pressure. fuel. and battery gauges all work as they should. This Formula has good power and handles great. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car.

The car runs and drives as well as it looks.

Overall Condition

Overall. this 1979 Formula is in great original condition and is a true bargain at our asking price. It is a great value and will only appreciate over time. The market is very hot on these late F-Body cars right now. especially for original low actual mile one owner examples like this one. This Formula is the one to have due to its one family ownership. the fact that it is numbers matching. and its well preserved stock appearance really adds to its value. This Formula turns heads and gets tons of attention wherever it goes. The value of these cars has gone up exponentially in recent years. They are all solid investments for a collector or the average enthusiast. Cars like this are the Barrett Jackson and Mecum stars of the future. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.
