FOR SALE: A cult Cortina 1600 E in excellent condition.

EQUIPMENT
Original radio. full chrome wheels. 185/70 tyres. stainless steel exhaust system. front fog lights.

EXTERIOR
This example of Ford's Cortina 1600 E is exceptionally clean and tidy. It has been well used over the years. including a daily commute to work until January 1990. but has always been well looked after. It looks fantastic. with a number of new parts. including boot. bonnet. rear valence and rear bumper. and replacement brazed strengthened doors. Presented in Ermine White with a thin red stripe along the sides. the car was resprayed in 1986. and the bodywork remains in excellent condition.

INTERIOR
Highly unusually for a 1600 E. the black interior is in good condition. with rear bucket seats. reclining front seats. and leather-clad sports steering wheel with drilled light alloy spokes. The burr walnut woodgrain-trimmed dashboard is also in excellent condition. featuring matching speedo and rev counter tucked away behind the steering wheel. while the original Motorola radio is still in the central panel. New carpets were fitted in 1986. Much of the work on the interior has been done by the present owner since 1988. including revarnishing the burr walnut door cappings.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The 1600 E's high-tune ‘Kent' 4-cylinder engine. with cross-flow cylinder head. is in excellent mechanical order. and capable of propelling the car to almost 100 mph. Thanks to the sporty 4-speed manual gearbox. it pulls well right through the rev range. Both the engine and the gearbox were reconditioned in 1985 at a cost of £500. and the engine bay and auxiliary components have since been reconditioned again by the present owner.

WHEELS. TYRES & BRAKES
This 1600 E was originally fitted with half-chrome Rostyle wheels. but these were stolen in the 1980 s. and have since been replaced by full chromes obtained from a scrapped 1600 E. They are in great condition. and come wrapped in Firestone tyres. F 560 at the front and F 570 at the rear – at 185/70. they are slightly wider than the original 165 s. Disc brakes are fitted up front. with drums at the rear.

HISTORY FILE
The car is supplied with a massive history file which documents almost every repair. refurbishment or part replacement since the car was manufactured in February 1970. It has had just four previous owners. with the current owner taking possession in 1988. The total mileage is 119. 14. but much of that was done by the first two owners until 1975. and since 1990. most mileage has been purely for weekend pleasure.
