It is interesting to note that a price of $6. 00 in 1958 (about three times the price of an average Chevy or Dodge) it is no wonder that these advanced unit-body designs with distinctive styling were a favorite for the rich and famous (including Elvis).    The 1958 Lincoln Continental Mark III was equipped with the speedy 430-cu. in. V-8 with a 4. 30 x 3. 70 inch bore and stroke and a 10. 5:1 compression ratio.   With its four-barrel carburetor. the V-8 made 375 hp at 4. 00 RPM and 490-lbs. ft. of torque at 3. 00 RPM.   1958 Lincoln Continental Mark III are great performers and at close to 2. 5 tons of weight to pull that is impressive.   Road&Track recorded 0-60 MPH runs in 8. 7 seconds and a 116 MPH top speed.

The owner of this car states that he has not touched the original engine in this car.   The car in this ad is paired with a Turbo Drive three-speed transmission and was not rebuilt when the car was restored in 2005 because it runs great.

The interiors of the Mark III came very nicely appointed. as they were Lincoln's flagships.   The car in this auction has power steering. power brakes. power windows. power seats. electric antenna. power top. remote control trunk.   It also features the reverse-angle power rear "breezeway" window that retracted down behind the back seat.

The owner of this car had the interior restored to the original factory design and pattern in Beige.   The seller did point out that the dash and the complimentary Naugahyde in the interior is original.

This car has been well cared for and lived part of its life in a museum before the seller purchased this car nearly three decades ago.   It has always shown very well and earned an impressive 94. 5 points before undergoing a serious restoration in 2010.   This car proved its mettle again by earning 97 ½ points in 2013.    However. maybe the most striking asset on this car is its striking Rosemetal Metallic paint #26 that was a special order.   The seller has an original factory brochure that confirms that Rosemetal Metallic was special order.

Other significant details of this car is that the car has two sets of hubcaps.   When the owner takes the car to show he puts on the special order hubcaps with Nine Gold Finished Fins equally spaced in a circular design.   (These alone were $1. 00 to restore).

The car has a beautiful convertible top restored back to original style including the Lincoln embossed logo that was only available on 1958 Lincoln Continentals.   The car also features a “one button” to put the top up and down…which is an amazing fete on its own!  Note the chrome strip in the trunk. when the top is down the chrome strips fits on top the back seat.

You can see from the photos that the trunk was restored back to its beautiful original condition with N. O. S. pattern material.   Note the little black bag next to the spare tire; the seller says it is not often you see these bags because most owners lost them over the years.   The original radio and the clock work.   The original clock's internal mechanism was upgraded so that it will keep time but it still looks original from the outside.

The seller tells us that the 44. 53 miles showing on the odometer are believed to be original because when he bought the car nearly three decades ago that the title stated that it had 36. 91 actual miles on the title.

NOTES FROM SELLER

The 1958 Lincoln Continental Mark III Convertible was sold new in Newark. N. J. and was purchased by a man who kept the displayed inside his museum with the convertible top down until 1985.   In 1985. he retired from his business and sold the Lincoln.   It was then the current owner's good fortune to become the proud owner of this Lincoln in May 1985.

The current owners enjoyed driving the Lincoln as purchased for the next 17 years. never thinking he would be able to restore it.    In 2002. the car underwent a restoration to return it to ‘like original' condition.   (The seller told us that even before it underwent the restoration it scored 94. 5 points).   When it was time for painting the vehicle was repainted the original Lincoln color of Rosemetal Metallic. According to the 1958 Lincoln Brochure. this color was available only by Special Order.

Restoration was completed in 2005 in time to be awarded a First Place and Lincoln Trophy.   From 2005 until 2013. the Lincoln has been entered and displayed in local shows and events winning many awards.   In September 2013. it was trailered to the big Lincoln show and was again awarded a First Place and Lincoln Trophy.

The current owner tells us when he purchased the vehicle in May 1985. the previous title stated that the actual mileage was 36. 91 and current actual mileage is 44. 53 and believed to be correct.
