Current customer rating: (265 votes ) based on1965 Oldsmobile Starfire 2 door HT
Up for Auction: fair low reserve making this a car almost anyone
can afford.
It really needs a good restoration. but you could mechanically
restore it first. then maybe do the exterior next. and leave the
interior for last.
These cars represented the "Jet Age" in the mid 60s and you can
see areas of this all around the car and even inside. even on the outside. nbsp;
the factory dual exhaust outlets thru the rear quarters was ahead
of its time for styling with one of the best classic color combinations.
The car always looks better in pics. but its still a nice body with
a nice original interior. If you check out how Oldsmobile sloped the
rear back window. its almost considered a fastback design.
Not alot of these cars have survived this long so restoring this
Starfire you can almost assure you wont see another one at your
local car show. and people always ask you what it is. Its really a piece
of history youll love putting back on the road and driving it.
A brief description of the vehicle. when cold to help it start easier
Ive been using a little gas down the carb to assure easy start up.
and idles just fair. Other then an exhaust leak the motor sounds
good and doesnt blow any blue or white smoke.
The car was a daily driver for an older lady here in Tucson for
the last 25 yrs until it was taken off the road about a yr ago.
She really got too old to drive it and let it sit in the carport
for the last few yrs when she got her new car.
We cleaned out the tank and the carb. but thats about it and
with a little gas down the carb. it fires right up. Sometimes it
idles by itself too. but chances are the car needs a full tune up
and possibly even need to have the Rochester 4v rebuilt too.
Sometimes the car fires up by itself with no help at all. but usually
when its warmed up some only.
When I have it running. Ive driven it around our parking lot a
few times to check the trans and brakes and they feel fine.
Some rust. the car spent about 10 yrs in Tx and then has been
here in Az since the mid 70s. It did get some rust but not as
bad as a true east coast car. Check out All the pics below to get
a better idea of what to expect. Pics are worth 1000 words and
we have pics all around and under the car below. about 150 total.
Not sure why more sellers dont do this. seems like the best way
to sell a vehicle over the internet.
Restore it back to stock or do something along the lines of a
restomod. or rat rod. Either way. youd have an awesome 1 of a kind car
your friends only wished they had for such a low investment.
DRIVETRAIN: best we can tell its a matching #s car with
the factory V8. I believe it to be Olds 7. 0 Litre 425 motor
matted to a 3 spd auto now for the first time on this
model. Transmission and brakes feel good and no wierd
noises coming from the rearend. Tires are way old and the
wrong size. Motor runs well for not being tuned. and has
plenty of torque and power for its age. It may surprise you
the pull this car has for its size.
Needs at least 1 or both hood hinges too.
INTERIOR: All original red (part leather / vinyl) seats and
something only the Starfires had. check out the metal
strips incorporated on the floors carpet. this was only done
on the Starfires. Power bucket dr seat and center console with
a big Factory Tach mounted up front. Rounding off the cars interior
check out all the chrome trim inside the car. and most of it is really nice.
as is the stainless trim on the doors is really cool and not in bad shape
again for its age. Another cool option this car has is a remote trunk
release in the glove box. At the moment not working. Yes. thats an
aftermarket (possibly dealer installed) 8 Track player under the
dash on the pass side :). The missing inner door handle and center for
the steering wheel come with the car and will be in a box in the trunk.
Both sunvisors are there too. the pass side even has a vanity mirror on
it from the factory that has the OLDSMOBILE name on it. pretty cool.
All the rubber and weather stripping is dry and toasty.
Power windows want to work but need fixing and pass side
window missing. But I found 1 in phx for $150 pls shipping.
EXTERIOR: Original color was White and its had at least
one or more repaint over the yrs. still acrylic enamel . br>Over the yrs it may of had some previous repairs but to me it
just looks like an old car thats needs restoring.
I found rust on the front of the hood. RR quarter panel up high
mostly by the trim. and on the trunk. Also someone damaged the
trunk removing the lock like a moron. A little rust around the
back window but not as bad as youd expect. Check out all the
Pics below and if you have questions. please email me.
Maybe its because of the white paint. But I dont see any signs of
huge bondo spots or rust repairs. Stainless and chrome not in
bad shape for being 49 yrs old. But again its not a restored car either.
SUSPENSION: all factory the best I can tell and Im sure some bushings
are old and shocks. but again this stuff is easy to fix these days
then rusted out bodies. Its not as mushy or tank-like of a drive as I
expected to be. The car drives like a smaller 2dr car to be honest
and Im sure with a few upgrades it would be even more fun to drive.
Leave it stock or put some 20" wheels on it.
Check out ALL the pics below ----->
it may take a full minute for them all to load if you have a
slow connection. so be patient AND looks for the extra schroll
bar on the right side.
Az gets maybe 12" a yr of rain and Az very dry climate.
more info AFTER the pics etc. There are 100 large pics.
There you have it. probably The BEST represented Oldsmobiles on Ebay.
Shows you all the good as well as any bad. hope you appreciate them.
We put a lot of time and effort in marketing our cars and it shows.
People wait months for a car this solid to come up for sale
and even if you have to pay shipping to your area. it still beats
paying a body shop to hopefully fix a rusty car for weeks on end.
Having as much as the original steel on a restored car these days
speaks volumes.
Also. if you buy a car thats been "restored". who knows what sort
of surprises are hidden under new paint or thick undercoating.
People are flipping cars all the time when most of the jobs are
fast. for a quick buck and quality suffers.
Our auctions have NOTHING to hide .
Restore a car like this yourself or locally and you know
exactly what you have in the end.
Email us with ANY questions before you bid please

The choke on the carb is not connected. so I wired it up so it was almost closed. Now it starts by itself almost everytime with help with gas. And it idles better too. Just a heads up.
