The Porsche 993 is the company's internal name for the version
of the 911 model manufactured and sold between late 1993 and early
1998. replacing the 964. the discontinuation marked the end of
air-cooled Porsches. Like previous and future generations of the
Porsche 911. there were several variants of the car manufactured. br/>varying in body style. drive-trains. and equipment. The external
design of the 993. penned by Englishman Toni Hatter. used the basic
bodyshell architecture of the 964 but with different external
panels. wheel arches with a more accentuated flare and a smoother
front and rear bumper design together with an enlarged retractable
rear wing and teardrop mirrors. The Carrera was available in two
and four-wheel drive versions. It was equipped with the naturally
aspirated 3. 6 litre. M 64 engine further developed from the 964 and
combined with a new dual-flow exhaust system now incorporating two
catalytic converters. However among enthusiasts. to differentiate
between the rear-wheel and all-wheel drive variants of the 993
Carrera they were (and still are) commonly referred to as 'C 2' and
'C 4'. respectively.
This 911 Carrera Tiptronic was originally registered 1 st December
1994 and presents in excellent order throughout. However it must be
noted that in July 2010 the car was recorded by HPI as being a
'category C insurance loss'. defined as 'vehicle extensively
damaged but repairable-insurer decided not to repair'. The current
vendor is meticulous in his attention to detail and on our
demonstration it was hard to find fault with D 5 DHC. The Iris Blue
coachwork is virtually unmarked as is the marble leather trim. A
comprehensive history file accompanies the Carrera with
confirmation of an engine and gearbox re-build in 2004 by GCS
Engineering in Horsham. it has covered approximately 14. 00 miles
since. The history file also contains a number of invoice from AFN
in Reading and confirms how well maintained this 911 has been
throughout its 20 years on the road. Supplied with a V 5
registration document and an Mo T test certificate valid until 14 th
May 2015 (no advisories). Personal inspection is highly recommended
on this outstanding Porsche. the previous history has been taken
into account by a very realistic estimate.
