It wasn't the fastest muscle car but with single-season styling and a unique combination of brake. engine. exhaust. and induction options. the 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z 28 was arguably the most desirable Z 28 of all. Adding $458 to the $2. 26 base price of a Camaro coupe. RPO Z 28 included the F 41 handling suspension with E 70 X 15 raised-letter tires on seven-inch wide rims. quicker steering. and twin rally stripes. Front disc brakes were standard.
The solid-lifter 302-cid V-8 with an 850-cfm four-barrel carburetor was a Z 28 exclusive. Dynamometer tests at close to 400 horsepower made a joke of its 290-horsepower rating. Chambered exhaust pipes. perhaps the least-restrictive exhausts Chevy ever offered. also were available. Yet another functional option unique to 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z 28 s was the $79 cowl-induction hood. It had a valve that snapped open at 80-percent throttle to draw in cool air from the base of the windshield.
1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z 28 s came only with a Hurst-shifted close-ratio four-speed 3. 73:1 gears were standard. with up to 4. 10:1 gears available. Positraction was an option. Styling could be enhanced by the Rally Sport package. which gained transparent louvers for its hidden-headlamp covers. Handling was razor-sharp. aided by power steering that was both quick and had a road race feel. Four-barrel 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z 28 s could run the quarter mile in 14. 8 seconds at 101 mph. With further modifications. the vehicle could easily enter into the low 12 second range. Dave Strickler's Camaro held the NHRA class world record with a Jenkins Competition prepared Z 28. As Trans Am titles in 1968 and 1969 showed. the Z 28 was a road-racer first. a street machine second. Its road-racing roots were evident in a peaky engine that was ill-at-ease on the street. but the Z 28 was one of the best-handling rides of the muscle car era. The 1969 Z 28 was one of the hottest-looking rides of the classic muscle car era. and showed what Chevy stylists could do to express performance and excitement.
This particular X 77 Z 28 has 71. 00 actual miles with its complete original drivetrain. The Camaro is optioned with a Parchment vinyl roof cover. air spoiler equipment. Soft-Ray tinted glass. cowl induction hood. rosewood steering wheel. Delco AM/FM Stereo radio with the factory installed two front and rear speakers. power steering. power front disc brakes. rear bumper guards. center console with special instrumentations. M-21 Muncie 4-speed manual transmission (P 9 M 12 A). 3:73 12 bolt positraction rear axle (BU 0 J 24 G 1 E). and rally wheels with Goodyear Eagle white letter radial tires. Most all factory correct components including the spare. jack. jack tools. seat belts. original Hurst shifter. and air cleaner.
The original Z 28 received a detailed chassis restoration that was completed to high standards to include correct factory markings and component decals to make the car present extremely well. The mostly original paint is still very nice. with some signs of wear. The glass. chrome. stainless. beauty rings. and center hub caps are excellent. The 100% original interior. door panels. upholstery. dashboard. carpets. instruments and switches are in good condition. The engine compartment is extremely clean and has been very nicely detailed. Correct finishes are applied on the engine. and the components are not over-restored.
This is an outstanding opportunity to acquire a highly desired original Z 28. The coupe is in superb shape and is nicely equipped and beautifully presented in Le Mans Blue with the original rare Parchment vinyl top.
