The previous owner traced the history of this classic auto since it arrived in the US in 1975.  He spoke with a gentleman from Texas (second owner) who bought it from a party in England (original owner) and had the car shipped to the U. S. for his wife.   The new Texas owner kept the car until 1986 and sold it to a gentleman in Virginia who did some minimal cosmetic work on it and drove it for some 4 years.

The third owner bought the Triumph in 1990 and had it shipped to Tucson. AZ where it has remained for the past 24 years. After enjoying the car for 6 years. it was commissioned a full restoration in 1996. which was completed in 1997.   Since that time. the car has been driven periodically and was garaged at all times with a dust cover.   The 1996 restoration cost nearly $18. 00 in addition to the $15. 00 purchase price paid for the car in 1990.

The car as you will see in the photos is a beautiful burgundy metallic complemented by a show room interior of soft camel.   The overall restoration included all new chrome on the entire car…original bumpers. hardware. wheel covers. etc.   The car was painted with several coats of acrylic lacquer.   A new convertible top fabric (tan) was installed along with a tonneau cover to match the upholstery and the 2 rear dickey seats were likewise re-upholstered and all new carpet installed.

The engine was thoroughly gone over and a rebuilt radiator installed; new belts. plugs. hoses. exhaust system and 4 new 600×16 Coker Classic tires were added as were new rubber surrounds on the front and rear windscreens.   All original instruments are there in the dashboard as are the original tools (now re-chromed): starter crank (no longer used). air pump. grease gun. wheel nut wrench and car jack.

This car was manufactured by the Standard Motor Company. LTD of Coventry. England which later became the Triumph Motor Company.  The car is an all aluminum alloy with a steel chassis and 2 front steel fenders (wings).   The history suggests that 2000 were originally built with 1335 sold in England and 665 exported all around the world.   In 1995 there were then 33 known to be in the U. S. . 350 in England and some 100 elsewhere around the world.   The literature states that this model 2000 Triumph rivaled the Jaguars of the late 40′s.    The 4 cylinder engine with overhead valves produces a top speed of 70 mph.   The steering column is on the right side and the manual transmission is a reverse opposite of our “H” shifting system in the U. S. but. nevertheless. very simple to drive.

If you are looking for a classic auto that turns heads and generates all kinds of questions. you should consider this classic.
