Oldsmobile : Ninety-Eight 98 for sale
Current customer rating:
You are bidding on a Rare. 1956 Oldsmobile 98 Starfire Convertible. (one of 8500) it was a true barn find here in Canton MI.
The options on this car are power steering. brakes. top. windows. seat. wonder bar radio with foot control. autronic eye.
The car was being restored in 1984. but was never completed. it was painted the two tone you see now. the original color was black and white. in 1985 the interior was removed and sent to a local trim shop. that trim shop burned and was a total loss. so the car sat in the pole barn for the next 29 years until I bought it at an estate sale. the owner had sold the land and the building had to be emptied.
I tracked down the interior parts to finish the car.
This car needs a complete restoration or weld a few patches in. install brakes and exhaust. a couple of Indian blankets and Cruise! I bought a original set of seats from a 1956 Starfire convert. power front seat in bad condition and the back seat was not any better. but with the 1957 Pontiac 2 door non power seat I acquired it will work perfectly.
The back seat I thought I could make a 2 or 4 door back seat work with the original and have found one for $40. 00. I will provide the new owner with all of my contacts for 56 parts.
I also installed a new solenoid on the starter and tuned it up. it cranks and back fires out of the exhaust. I think some of the valves are stuck. I also installed a rebuilt carb and disconnected the fuel pump so no old fuel could get in the new carb. but nothing came from the pump so the tank may be empty.
I bought the stainless interior door trim for the panels.
I also bought the replacement STARFIRE letters from Fusick. ($125. 00) and they were two-way taped on for photos as were the door handles. The body is Not too bad. the floors need the foot well patches Not an entire floor! and the trunk is almost perfect with only a small hole in the side of the spare tire well. it looks more like a bullet hole.
It will need a right side inner and outer rocker panel and a small patch on the bottom of the right side fender. both doors will need some work on the bottom.
The die cast is nice on the car except for the hood emblem and a NOS one is included. the right side of the thin aluminum grill is bent and a almost perfect one is included.
I am going ahead and listing this car as is. although I have a lead on a 1956 rebuilt engine and trans and will make it available to the new owner if I can close the deal.
I am putting a reserve on this car at 25% of the restored price. you do the math. if you have any questions feel free to call me.
I have this car for sale locally and reserve the right to stop the auction.
Thanks. and good luck!
