MODEL HISTORY
In the autumn of 1977. Volkswagen made the momentous decision to stop European production of the Beetle. As a result. Volkswagen UK chose to mark the occasion by ordering 600 of its quota of '78 model Beetles. 300 of which were the Diamond Silver Metallic Last Edition Beetles. The other 300 Beetle 1200L cars to roll out of the Emden plant for the UK market were finished in the normal '78 model range paintwork colours of Alpine White. Mars Red. Miami Blue or Riyad Yellow. This Mars Red example having been manufactured in August 1977 and registered November 1977 firmly secures itself as ‘one of the last'.

EXTERIOR
This wonderfully preserved and unmolested Beetle is beautifully presented in Mars Red (code L 31 B). The paintwork boasts a vibrant deep shine with a uniform glossy finish. Having been protected from new with the Dinitrol Corrosion Protection treatment. all factory panels are intact. straight and original. A Dinitrol sticker remains in the windscreen and the supplying dealer number plates are fitted. All original trim sections are in remarkable order and the factory glass and light clusters are security etched with the registration mark on each piece. One tiny bleb to the drivers front wing and the chromed plastic beading around the glass has faded slightly in places. The chrome bumpers have a mirror finish and there are no dents or dings. This incredible Beetle has remained completely true to Volkswagen's vision and is now a highly collectable example. simply stunning.

INTERIOR
The original Parchment velour seats are beautifully clean and free from damage with no rips or tears whatsoever. Slightly stretched fabric on the driver's seat certainly doesn't spoil the presentation. The rubber flooring and carpeting has been fastidiously preserved from new and the door cards and internal trim pieces are all perfect. The functional and well-made interior controls. lighting and instrumentation are fully intact and operational. An electric screen washer has been professionally fitted. This classic Beetle interior is an absolute delight to any enthusiast or collector seeking a factory original unmolested example.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The air-cooled rear mounted engine produces 34bhp from its 1192cc displacement and operates with brilliance. A top speed of 71mph and 0-60 in 18 seconds is delivered whilst returning 37. 6mpg. Engine number D1416059 is factory correct and the fully synchronised 4-speed gearbox works perfectly offering light and precise gear changes. The engine bay and front compartment house all the correct factory stickers and plates and are spotlessly clean.

WHEELS. TYRES & BRAKES
Pressed steel wheels are dressed in stunning chrome half wheel covers and shod in matching 155 R15T tubeless tyres which are as new. The nearside front hubcap has a very shallow ding. The spare wheel with matching unused tyre is housed correctly. Dual circuit 9. 06in drums front and rear operate well offering adequate stopping power.

HISTORY FILE
This wonderful very late Beetle was supplied new by Volkswagen Main Dealers Castles of Leicester and registered new on 1st November 1977. Incredibly the first owner Mr Edwin Badcock is the one and only true owner of the car throughout its entire existence. Upon his passing. the car was inherited on 14th March 2014 by fellow church goer Mrs Helen Holden who is listed as just the second ever keeper on the V5 document. Two sets of keys are present.

Having covered just 52. 55 miles from new. this delightfully original vehicle represents itself as testament to both the manufacturer and Mr Badcock whose devoted efforts to preserve the car are very clear to see.

MOT April 2015. Tax May 2015. HPI Clear. Approved Used Car Check Certificate.
