The Austin-Healey 100 is a sports car built between 1953 and
1956 by the British Motor Corporation.
It was developed by
Donald Healey to be produced in-house by Healey's small car company
in Warwick and based on Austin A 90 Atlantic mechanicals.
Healey built a single 'Healey Hundred' for the 1952 London Motor
Show and the design impressed Leonard Lord. Managing Director of
Austin. so much that a deal was struck with Healey to build it in
quantity at Austin's Longbridge factory. The car was renamed the
Austin-Healey 100. The first 100's (series 'BN 1') were equipped
with the same 90 bhp engines and manual transmission as the stock
A 90. but the transmission was modified to be a three-speed unit
with overdrive on second and top.
The BN 2 came with a real
four-speed manual transmission. still with overdrive on the top two
gears. Features which distinguish the BN 2 from the BN 1 are the
slightly larger front wheel arches. different rear axle and being
the first 100 with optional two-tone paint.
Built on 24 th May 1956. this Austin Healey 100 BN 2 was despatched
to North American dealer Hambro Trading in Los Angeles. Repatriated
to the UK in 1990. the car underwent a restoration. including the
fitment of four fibre glass wings - although it should be noted
these have been exceptionally well fitted and are of the highest
quality. A heritage certificate accompanies XSV 459 together with
all the Mo T test certificates from 1990. Supplied with a V 5
registration document and a current Mo T test certificate valid
until 3 rd March 2014. this BN 2 represents an excellent opportunity
given the increase we have seen in Austin Healey values of
late.
