Loving restoration. Show stopper, eye-catching classic! for sale
Current customer rating:
This car is the lifelong pursuit and passion of my father. who purchased this car from a dealer in Arizona in 1990. He then undertook a frame-off restoration to return this car to complete newness and functionality.
As it stands today (I drove it last week) it is what I'd call a 95% complete restoration. as there are a few cosmetic issues and paint.
But. as you might guess. there's more to the story.
The '59 Plymouth Sport Fury was the first new car my dad purchased. It was the car in which he and my mother enjoyed their honeymoon.
Then one cold January day in the early 1960 s (as the story was told and retold over Thanksgiving tables of yore) my mother took the car to the store to buy milk--a short journey of a mile or two. Somehow the car caught fire and burned to a crisp during this trip. Happily my mom was unhurt. but my dad's dream car was gone . . .
Fast forward through children. a career and about thirty years. Upon the occasion of his retirement. my dad sought to replace the car he loved. He found this car in an issue of Hemming's Motor News in 1990. purchased it and had it shipped across the country to his home in Pennsylvania. The major mechanical restoration was performed by Bill's Auto Repair and Restoration in Milford Pennsylvania during 1990-91. My father helped by researching details. paints. fabric swatches and every possible source of original parts needed to perform a complete resto.
The photos tell the rest of the story. It's an eye-catcher. The interior and exterior are in remarkable condition. There are a few spots of corrosion popping up on the exterior. and I've tried to show them in the photos. The steering wheel is original but in need of replacement. Apart from those few things. the car is complete and fabulous.
Included with the vehicle is a collection of vintage Plymouth dealer sales materials used to pick color schemes. fabric swatches and other options for the 1959 Plymouth. Also. a scrapbook of the restoration in process. a vintage parts catalog and leftover bolts of fabric. piping and other materials establishing provenance from the restoration are included with the car.
Drive this racy Plymouth straight to the nearest car show and watch heads turn . . .
The car can be seen in Pike County. Pennsylvania. and I will arrange a meeting for serious potential buyers to 'kick the tires'.
Call Bob with questions --I'll do my best to answer them.
