Purchased by James Black Pontiac Cadillac 30 years ago and after full frame off restoration placed in our Pontiac showroom for 3 decades. The T/A has not been driven on the road since restoration 30 years ago. Kept in Heated and Humidy Controlled A/C Showroom. We rebuilt it to forever keep it in our Pontiac Showroom as a display peace of Pontiac history but with Pontiac out of business we decided to sell it. Every aspect of the restoration was done better than GM to show our beautiful 1970 Trans AM Ram Air III AND show the quality of our service / body departments. GM should have never closed Pontiac!
MECHANICAL:
Rebuilt Original Engine. Muncie Transmission. Original Carburetor. Original Alternator. Tore apart entire wiring harness and replaced/repaired all corrosion/damage.
Replaced water pump. all suspension parts. shocks. springs. all brake and fuel lines with stainless steel lines. brake calipers/cylinders & hardware. Master Cylinder. Brake Booster. Starter. 4 wheel bearings. heater core. radiator. all rubber hoses. belts. & vacumn lines. windshield wiper motor. blower motor.
INTERIOR:
Replaced all seat and door covers. headliner. carpet. weatherstrips. and trunk mats with GM Restoration parts.
BODY:
Any black color body part was removed. sand blasted. dipped in an acid wash and powder coated in satin black color. Interior body panels were cleaned (removed a lot of rustproofing original owner put on vehicle when new) treaded and coated with an industrial rust prevention coating. The entire body was stripped to metal. primed with self etching primer (Dupont Variprime). then hi build 2 stage Dupont epoxy primer (and then left to sit for 12 months to dry/shrink). After the 12 month drying period it was blocked and painted and then again blocked between every 2 nd coat and cleared with Dupont 2 stage Chroma-Clear. 3 decades later the paint is still in beautiful condition. All paint products used were of the Dupont Chromabase System.
(It helps it has never been outside in 30 years). All decals were replaced with GM OEM parts that were still able to get 30 years ago.
WHEELS
CORRECT ORIGINAL "JW" 15" WHEELS were sandblasted. and painted in original colors.
ENGINE #S - 400 Ram Air III
UPPER # 05587 WS
LOWER # N 119386 - VIN# (1 NUMBER EARLY as T/A VIN # is N 119387)
This is the original engine that came with vehicle from the Norwood GM factory in May of 1970. GM crossed engines as they got out of sequence on the factory line in 1970 (this was before computers and bar code readers). Date code is correct. Engine code WS is correct the engine VIN number is the engine that should have been put in the Trans AM BEFORE this Trans AM. As a GM. Pontiac. Cadillac dealer our sources at the time at GM told us that this happened a lot before the time of computers. The line employees would have a delay or problem and instead of holding up the line they would grab the next part and it was never caught.
The Engine was professionally rebuilt with new GM parts and started a couple times per year but never driven on the road. It may have 6 hours of running time but ZERO miles driven on odometer. Since it was rebuilt 30 years ago we were able to use all New GM Parts in the rebuild.
New GM Parts replaced were the Camshaft. Crankshaft. Pistons. Rings. All Seals. All Bearings. and Gaskets. The block was cut 30 thousands over and the heads were reconditioned with a valve cut. Engine and car only had 46. 00 miles on it when we started the rebuild so it was in pretty good condition when we purchased it 30 years ago it but now it has zero miles on it after the rebuild.
