1966 Amphicar Model 770 Convertible Numbers Matching Water Ready Low Mileage for sale

1966 Amphicar Model 770 Convertible
Very rare and always appreciated by those who get to see them! Only 3. 78 of these amphibious cars were ever produced making them an excellent collection piece and future investment! Many have been swallowed up by museums throughout the world to forever been seen as simple conversation pieces.
Even our President Lyndon B. Johnson owned one that is now on display at his historical LBJ Ranch!!
In 1962. an American auto manufacture joined up with a German manufacture to produce the first factory built. public dual-purpose vehicle for land and water use.
The company was Amphicar and the Model 770 was born.
It was a street legal convertible. and a water ready boat all in one! Manufactured in small quantities each year from 1961 through 1965. only 3. 78 were said to have been when manufacturing stopped.
Late production examples were titled in the year they were first sold & registered. so finding 1966-1968 examples can be common.
All of which are now extremely rare and highly prized collectibles!
We are very proud to offer this exceptional 1966 Amphicar Model 770 finished in Regatta Red with White/Red interior and white convertible top.
This fully operational example comes with only 7. 92 original miles and has been beautifully maintained only utilized sparingly over the years! Options include the original. number's matching Triumph 1296 cc OHV 4 cylinder engine with single Solex carburetor. 4-speed fully sychromesh manual transmission. heater with defrost. Moto Meter gauges. polished wheel covers. 6. 50-13” Sear Allstate Guardsmen whitewall tires. and dual rear propellers!
It appears to have been only cosmetically restored over the years showing one older repaint completed prior to 1988. new interior upholstery that remains very clean and free of any rips or tears. with firm and supportive seat foams.
The newer White convertible top is also clean and comes with matching boot cover & storage bag.
The interior vinyl floor covering is also clean and undamaged.
The hull itself is totally free of any rust and shows perfect seams & spot welds in all visible areas.
The doors and windows fit as factory new.
It will come complete with a partial owner's manual. original maintenance booklet showing original owners taking delivery in Minneapolis. MN dated June 18 th. 1966.
The spare tire. jack. hubcap remover. navigation light bar. and hood & trunk lock/release key are all present.
It is all ready for water use with certification and registration maintained through 2012 by the same family Michigan owner for the last 26 years who included four life preservers and an anchor with rope. Since their purchase. the car made its way into the Carail Museum in Detriot. MI where it was displayed for many years.
It then traveled to Bay Harbor. MI and was used sparingly and participated in the annual Amphicar Swim-In's! It recently received all new brake cylinders and master cylinder along with fresh silicon fluid.
The oil & filter where changed along with a fresh valve cover gasket.
