1971 Mercedes W109 300SEL 6.3 With Sunroof Nice Color Combo Offered By Collector for sale
Current customer rating:
Am a Mercedes classic car collector and enthusiast and have decided to reduce my collection and sell my W 109 300 SEL 6. 3 due to other projects.
I have purchased this 6. 3 end of 2009 from Stu Hammel. President of the M 100 Club USA at the time. and have owned the car since then. Sadly I heard that Stu passed away in 2012. I searched for a long time to find a 6. 3 in this color combo and with the sunroof option. Over the years I have done most of the necessary maintenance & repair jobs to keep the car on the road and to improve it step by step. Since I am a perfectionist. there are still some pending issues which need to be attended to to make the car perfect. It
is ideal for someone who likes to drive a classic and at the same time gradually improve it even more.
I decided to compile a list of mechanical and cosmetic items which have already been done (using only original Mercedes parts which I ordered from Germany and the US):
Engine Mounts
Transmission Mount
Service parts (Oil Filter. Fuel Filter. Air Filter. Spark Plugs. Contact Points. Transmission Filter & Seal)
Radiator service
Air Intake Rubber Nozzle replaced
Ignition Wire Set Left & Right Cylinder Bank
Automatic Transmission Switch
Automatic Transmission Cable
Stainless Steel Exhaust System
Fuel Tank
Air Bellows for suspension front & rear
Suspension bushings front & rear
Front & rear Axle bushings/seals
Exhaust Mountings
Handbrake Cable
Door Seals
Trunk Seal
Windshield Seal
Rear Glass Seal
Sunroof Seals
Door Handle Seals
Side Glass sealing rails. slide rails and rubber moulding
Sunroof mechanical parts & repair
Rear lights
Exhaust Chrome Ends/Tips
Touch up paint in some areas
Chrome trim set for radiator mask
Mercedes star for radiator mask
Wiper rubber
Wiper washer tank cap & tube
Headliner replaced (original material)
Interior lamp front
Top dash wood bow refinished
Clock rebuilt
Vent & Heating Levers replaced
Electric antenna replaced (original Hirschmann)
Automatic floor shift gate
Steering wheel center pad
Air vent nozzle left
Set of keys (original Mercedes)
My 6. 3 is always garaged. The car runs and drives very well. Oil pressure is high even at operating temp. Transmission shifts as it should. The car came without any maintenance records however judging by the condition. it was maintained and well taken care of. I do have the manuals. The 6. 3 has been re-painted in the US in the past. The leather and carpet are still in nice condition. The dash top bow wood has been refinished in the US. The balance wood on the dash and doors is still original and could use a re-finish however is not urgent. All instruments work. I had the clock rebuilt in the US. The Becker radio and electric antenna (replaced with original Hirschmann) work. Electric windows and sunroof work. All interior lights including reading lights work. The heater and vent levers were replaced with original parts since these tend to get jammed and break. The illumination works. The headliner was replaced with original material since it was no longer nice. What I would also replace is the rear speaker grills since they are weathered and cracked. These are not expensive to replace. There is a small stone chip in the windscreen near the rear view mirror.
The chrome parts are still in very nice condition.
The air suspension functions as it should. When the knob is fully pulled out. the car raises up and when the knob is pushed back in. the car lowers to the normal driving height. I have not overhauled the two front and the rear suspension valves yet. The back of the car stays up when parked for longer periods and the front suspension sinks down a little bit.
The following issues need to be attended to. The central locking has recently stopped working. The AC system blows warm air after approx. 1 week of a gas refill. I had the workshop check and was informed that the original York compressor is leaking. There are two options - rebuild the compressor with a repair kit or upgrade the AC system with a more modern rotary compressor e. g. Sanden.
I have described my 6. 3 to the best of my abilities. In case I should have forgotten something please feel free to ask. The car is located in Dubai. United Arab Emirates and I will assist with shipping. Please only bid if you are serious to go through with the deal. Car is sold as is where is.
Thanks for looking and happy bidding!
